This is absolutely adorable. The kitties are cute, but even more than that I love seeing young couples so happy. It warms my heart … Thank you Georgia!
Okay, we need to stuff Elvis so full of ‘nip that he doesn’t remember to go stalking children and stealing candy. Those kids worked hard for their treats!
I was online, checking GoComics from 1 a.m. until after 2 a.m. EST. Yesterday’s comic was showing until 2 a.m. When I finally got into today’s, five people had already left comments. So I wonder if it’s ’cause I just have the freebie subscription? BCN is the only one I want to subscribe to, since I get a daily paper with the rest of my favs. Oh well!A blessed day to Georgia, her clan & her fans!
Many years ago I spent a summer at my sister’s house. Her family went on vacation the week I arrived, so I got the job of catsitter. As long as I kept Archie’s food and water bowl supplied, he was happy, coming and going through his pet portal in the kitchen door.
One night I was reading in the living room, and the door bell rang. I was just a few feet away from the door, and was there in seconds, opened it… to an empty porch. No one in sight, and no where for anyone to have hidden, no way to have run away before I got from sofa to door.
Hmmm. Short circuit in the doorbell?
I sat down and started to read, and in seconds the doorbell rang. Same story as before, no one there. I was starting to get spooked. I decided to close the door, but not sit down. Rather, I stayed at the door looking through the peep hole viewer, hand on the door knob. While I’m looking at an empty porch, the bell rings! I open it instantly and this time I have my answer.
The cat, Archie, was perched, standing on the wrought iron porch rail, bracing against the bricks with one paw, and stretching the other far enough to ring the doorbell. Apparently, he had been ringing it and then jumping down below to the ground. I still don’t know whether he was intentionally teasing me!
Later my sister told me he sometimes just wanted to ring the bell and sometimes wanted to come inside without having to walk all the way around the house to his cat door.
I have another, and it’s spookier than this one. I’ll post it tonight between trick or treaters….
I had a little black cat named Puffy. One Halloween she decided to sit in the window very still and blink at the trick or treaters as they came past. We got quite a few shrieks from people who didn’t realize she wasn’t a decoration.
“Samhain! Hope and prayall ye meet are the gentle fey.” —Heather Alexander
I think Elvis is definitely not the gentle fey. He looks positively demonic in the last panel. (A demonic taco? That’s worse than “The Eggplant That Ate Chicago.”) There, I’ve given back the ear-worm.
I had a small white and black fluffy cat – who every thought was oh so cute – until he would floof and hiss. He was protective of the house and his food. He wait every day for the mailman so he could “hiss” and “spit” at the Invader. Halloween was bad. He’d sit in the hall and arch and hiss and fling himself at the door – terrifying the kids. He spent may a Halloween being ‘bent out of shape" in the Bathroom. He’s gone to Cat Heaven – and I do really miss that little cat. Elvis reminds me of my little “loverboy” protective cat. I don’t think I’ll ever be loved like that again. :)
Long ago I lived in a haunted tenement. Everyone living there had ghost stories, and I’d had experiences other than this one, but they weren’t about cats.
One night I was reading in bed and the bedroom door was partially open. I imagined I saw it move, but I didn’t really. My cat however sat down in front of the doorway and stared into it at nothing. She then got up on her hind legs, grabbed the door with her forelegs, and opened it all the way.
I was a guest in a friend’s home. On this particular night, I had settled into bed with a good book before sleep. An unusually heavy snow was was falling, moonlight reflecting off the whited lawn, the perfect atmosphere for my book, Peter Straub’s “Ghost Story.”
I had reached a chapter in which a pair of ghostly agents of a vengeful Back-from-the-Dead antagonist were wandering about the town… amidst a heavy snow, not unlike the one happening outside my window. They were testing doors and windows, seeking specific victims, but unable (because of whatever ghostly rule) to enter unless a door or window were left unlocked.
As they were testing a door knob, a small sound distracted me. I looked up from my book in the direction of the sound, toward the bedroom door… which was not locked. Did I see the knob turn? That shouldn’t happen. Did I imagine… but, no, it was turning! And with an ominous click, the door slowly opened.
I stared, but there was no one there. I jumped up, went to the open door, looked up and down the long hallway. No one! If anyone had been there and fled, they must have glided, because there was no sound of departing footfalls.
Then another sound startled me. I looked in it’s direction, this time at my feet. Resting her chin on my bare foot, Lulu, my friend’s cat.
At breakfast the next day, I told my story. My friend said matter-of-factly, "Oh, yes. I guess I should have mentioned. Lulu knows how to open doors. She stands on her hind feet, paws at the knob, and then gives a little push.
