I heard that the reason Moses and the Israelites wandered for 40 years in the desert (750 miles overland from Cairo to Jerusalem should’ve been at most a 60-day cross-country hike) was that the men wouldn’t stop to ask for directions.
People think navigation is all about knowing where you’re going. But I’m not entirely sure it’s not more about knowing where you’ve been.
That sounds weird. In fact, I’ve already almost erased it and started over maybe five times, fancying myself as a total go-forward, don’t-look-back kind of guy. Which is crap. I mean, I write stuff for a living, and writing is about 90% accumulation and maybe 10% production. Well, and then there’s that 50% where you stare into space listening in on the voices in your head, working your butt off while appearing to be wasting colossal amounts of time, which adds up to 150%, which still seems low.
But it still made me feel weird. And then I realized there’s a big difference between remembering where you’ve been and staying there, and now I feel all right again.
People will believe what they will, but what is Real remains the same—even though It will disport Itself very fluidly. God is metaphorical nomenclature for what we cannot begin to comprehend. Meanwhile, let’s dance!

I wish I had the time to waste, like all those men who don’t ask for or read directions. ;-)

My take on it is that men usually don’t like to admit that they are wrong.

Whew. That was a tough one to navigate.

I am perfectly wiling to ask for directions; if someone thinks less of me for it, that’s their problem, not mine: it’s preferable to being lost.
