Many anti drinking activists believed that it was the soda water working with the alcohol that got you drunk faster, so they outlawed soda water on Sunday as well. An ice cream parlour owner served what he called “Sunday Sodas” which were basically the soda without the soda water. He changed the name to Sundae to placate the anti-drink activists.
