For younger readers who don’t get this, ‘16 Tons’ was a song recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford that was a Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit in 1955 and brought him international fame.

It’s not often you come across a Tennessee Ernie Ford reference,.

If you don’t know Tennessee Ernie Ford, you’re missing out! He sang sooo many great songs—country and gospel, etc.—and also had a show on TV, plus guest-starred on others like “I Love Lucy” AND “The Lucy Show” with Lucille Ball. His voice was ah-mazing. (“Shotgun Boogie”!) He sang songs from the Civil War on two records—one with songs from the South and one with songs from the North. An all-around great entertainer!
