Here in NYC it’s snowing…wind gusts are the worse…pooch loves snow so he bounced around front lawn earlier and did his business. We won’t begin to dig out until either tonight or tomorrow. The snow blower (our hero) will get it’s first use of the season. My 3 cats run from the back to the front windows looking at this storm. Sorry kitties, I won’t be putting bird seed out front in the feeders until the wind gusts let up.

Mr. Hollingsworth or Route Nine….I, my dog and 3 cats, take exception to your obnoxious commercial announcement. MY kitties adore their canine brother. Raspberries and/or a hearty Bronx Cheer to you!!!!

Orange Kitty LOVES Freddog and is making friends with Craig’s Jack Russell, who does not know what to make of a kitty touching his nose!

The Ohio River has frozen completely over. The last time it happened, a riverboat pushing a series of barges full of coal downriver to a powerplant got stuck in the ice for a day until another riverboat came and acted as an icebreaker and helped het it out. What entertainment! Meanwhile, the caretaker who lives on Blennerhasset Island State Park was trapped on island by the ice. For a week, they had to lower food by rope from the US 50 highway bridge that runs over the south tip of the island to her.

Plenty of snow here. The Weimaraner is acting like a puppy again. He was raised in the snow so he has been missing it. I don’t miss snow but he has so much fun I enjoy it through him. He has been chasing his rubber frisbee and playing find the frisbee under the snow. All I can see is a cigar stump of a tail sticking straight up going in circles. Then he finds it brings it back and we do it agian. Thank goodness he has plenty of warm coats from before we moved. Oh well more shoving for me now and playing for him. Hope everyone is warm.

Well, so far, 2018 is not off to a great start (chin up, I expect there will be good things in the year ahead). My story gets a little gross here, so be prepared if you’re easily grossed out. On the night of December 31, Tigger threw up. Not an uncommon thing in cats, but what I saw was not so common. All he barfed up was a little white foamy stuff – no food. But then I saw something squirming around in the white foam. It was worms. ICK! I used a little stick to shove the icky, ugly things into a Ziploc bag so I could show them to the vet. I suspected they were either roundworms or whipworms. I couldn’t get Tigger to the vet until yesterday (Jan 3). He was overdue for vaccinations, so I was taking care of that while I was getting the worm thing checked out. Tigger is the cat who was missing for 4 months so I was concerned he might pick up worms if he was living on his own, eating nothing but mice and birds or whatever he could catch. Well. worms were the least of the problem. I wasn’t even real worried about that, since worms are easily treated. But during his exam, the vet found he has an irregular heartbeat. No murmur, she said, but the heartbeat was very fast (faster than the average frightened cat) and irregular. They did an EKG (that cost around $50) which showed the irregular beat. The vet said this could be a serious problem and could lead to a heart attack or heart failure. I don’t even like to think what it would have been like if he’d had a heart attack while out on his own for those 4 months. Well. Tigger goes back to the vet on the 24th of this month for the second dose of his feline leukemia shot and they’ll check his heart rate again and if it’s still irregular, we’ll try some blood work to look for possible causes (she said that hyperthyroidism is one thing that can cause an irregular heartbeat) and we’ll go on from there. I hope his irregular heartbeat was due to the stress of not feeling well because of the worms.

I’m with the cats. Every time I see someone trudging through the snow, wind, and/or rain to take their dog for a walk, I’m so glad I don’t have one. And let’s not even talk about picking up after them.

Grandoggie loves cold weather, She has an assortment of cute sweaters and coats (daughter has no children!) and a pink polka dot raincoat, She wears the various hoods even when they cover her eyes. We had just gotten out of the car when we heard a “thump”. She had walked into the back tire, because the hood was over her eyes.

The Heating Company still hasn’t received the parts to fix our furnace. Despite 6 various portable heaters we can’t get the house past 61F, Both of us have colds and this is certainly not helping. Supposed to be fixed yesterday and Dale just called them and the parts didn’t come in, maybe today. Maybe they will find our frozen selves come next spring. Meanwhile the electric meter is whirling out there, I’m surprised the Electric Company hasn’t called to ask us what is going on!

And Eldo….no digs about leaving SoCal.! and I won’t say anything about drying up and blowing away! LOL

10+ inches of snow here in Norfolk, VA. Started last night and kept going until 2:30 this afternoon. Spent 2 hours shoveling and couldn’t even get the whole driveway cleared (drifts are higher in some places). Thankfully office is closed again tomorrow so I can finish the drive and get a path done on the sidewalk. Can’t get to the ice melt until I get the car out. I remembered to move the dog food to the other side of the garage so I could get to it with the car in the way, but totally forgot about the ice melt.
