If they sing that at ball games players would barely have time to kneel. (You mean I have to get over myself and get up already?) I actually understand the issues involved, this is just the first thing that came to mind.
Personally, I would like to see it changed to America the Beautiful. Or even God Bless America. Why are we using a war song? It was adopted as our anthem in 1931 by Herbert Hoover, so we haven’t even had it for a century. Would be nice to have a new one extolling the beauty of this country rather than speaking of war. My personal opinion, of course.
The tune used for The Star-Spangled Banner is an old drinking song, and it is nearly impossible to sing properly. However, the words are not nearly as offensive as Maryland, My Maryland. Look it up.
Yeah, but warriors like war songs. And they insert in God we trust into the flag salute, which was originally composed by a socialist internationalist. That’ll make the right wing’s heads spin!
Good thing that the US version of the Pledge of Allegiance isn’t mandatory. I truly dislike how it has been bowdlerized and reduced to a religious nationalist song. I do not acknowledge it. When it was originally written it represented all republics as a group.

We can always use more proposed replacements to our national anthem.
I favor Neil Diamond’s AMERICA .To keep doing it justice, though, he needs to regain his health.

Far,
We’ve been traveling far
Without a home
But not without a star
—
Free,
Only want to be free
We huddle close
Hang on to a dream
—
On the boats and on the planes
They’re coming to America
Never looking back again,
They’re coming to America
—
Home
Don’t it seem so far away
Oh, we’re traveling light today
In the eye of the storm
In the eye of the storm
—
Home
To a new and a shiny place
Make our bed and we’ll say our grace
Freedom’s light burning warm
Freedom’s light burning warm
—
Everywhere around the world
They’re coming to America
Ev’ry time that flag’s unfurled
They’re coming to America
—
Got a dream to take them there
They’re coming to America
Got a dream they’ve come to share
They’re coming to America
—
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
Today, Today,
Today, Today, Today
—
My country ’tis of thee (today)
Sweet land of liberty (today)
Of thee I sing (today)
Of thee I sing
Today, Today, Today
Today, today, today……
