Our gym teacher was of course, the football coach. One of his favorite indoor “games” was “Jungle Ball” – basketball with no fouls called. Of course, he put all the football players on one team & the smart kids on the other.
I have always suspected watching young boys showering is a key factor in career choice for most gym teachers (as born out by former House Speaker Dennis Pederastert [who came from, but failed to represent, my district, I’m ashamed to say]).
It’s time for Calvin to learn a few extra moves. Go for the eyes, or for the, um, male attachments. If he gets the chance, stomp as hard as possible on Moe’s instep (actually the floor below to avoid stopping short). Broken small bones in the instep hurt like hell. Self defense against a bully is not fighting “dirty.”
Don’t they wrestle in weight classes? My “fave” was having swimming classes right after lunch – definitely cut down on what I ate or I would have been feeding the fishes in the pool
I could never dignify it by calling it phys ed. The only education I ever saw in it was just how badly a person could be humiliated. It was always “gym class” to me.
For wrestling, we used to separate out and pair up by weight class. No way Calvin should ever have to face a monster like Moe on the mat unless the gym teacher’s a negligent ingoramus.
1) What messed up school would teach wrestling to kids Calvin’s age?2) Even if they do, what sadistic gym teacher would put the two of them in the same weight class?
Actually, Calvin is wrong in this one. I’m going to have to disagree with Calvin. PE is instruction in physical exercise and games, especially in schools. It is not actually what you learn from having your face in someone’s armpit right before lunch. I am actually taking a PE course at the moment and I know the importance of good physical education and I also know the importance of a healthy diet. If you do not regularly work out and eat healthy foods, then you may die of a heart attack. It is vital to eat heart and brain foods as it helps these muscles and cells function correctly. Excercise is also important as it is the key to losing weight. Whenever you exhale, you are losing body weight. After a good workout, it is vital that you eat protein as it is a way of building up the muscle that was worn down during your workout. Calvin was wrong in his definition of Physical Education.

Calvin, just as you are about to start wrestling, throw up on Moe.

God, I still have flashbacks to my seventh grade gym class. It was about as fun as being stabbed with a butcher knife.

P.E should stand for pathetic experience. I should know, I’ve witnessed hundreds myself; and not just at school.

Aw lucky! I had gym class from first through 10th grades and they never did wrestling, which was one of the few sports I was really good at!

Is it any wonder these kids develop problems later.

When you’re on the mat with Moe, stay behind him. It doesn’t look like he sees too good.

The problem is that most gym teachers were like Moe when they were kids, so they see nothing wrong with this kind of behavior.

Nose in someone’s armpit? That’s not P.E.; that’s P-U!…

Would have been great if Watterson had had Calvin kick Moe in the balls, just once.

That’s why I enjoyed dodge ball so much. They were targets, along with jocks, and we outnumbered them.

Return the favor of the armpit. A little flatulence applied may have a beneficial effect. Have onions with breakfast.
