You mean news from national media who no longer vet their stories and who follow one political line? I’ll take the Internet solution, thank you. I despise being told what to think or believe by political shills masquerading as mainstream media.

I’d recommend such news sources as Democracy Now, The Young Turks, Fairness And Accuracy In Reporting and others who aren’t run by corporations and not beholding to anyone but their audience. Even some parts of MSNBC are reliable.

“reliable, vetted reporting from established, reputable news sources”?

To dream, the impossible dream. And then she looked at me with them big brown eyes and said, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. B-b-b-baby, you just ain’t seen n-n-nothin’ yet.”

I recommend the “Paper of Record” NYT which can be relied upon to be properly vetted with its time honored slogan “All the News that’s Fit to Print – that meets the Agenda.”

Reliable, vetted reporting from established reputable news sources which supposedly deliver only facts rather than an endless stream of editorializing? Where?

In high school we were taught how to read a newspaper. Apparently, being taught critical thinking is going the way of cursive writing.

Alvin Toffler wrote a book that closely describes today’s culture. What is most interesting is that his book, “Future Shock” was published almost a half century ago, before the proliferation of cable TV, before the internet. in this segment he uses “life style” as an example of how people choose among an increasingly larger number of alternatives on how to think and act. The emphasis is mine:

“By zeroing in on a particular life style we exclude a vast number of alternatives from further consideration. The fellow who opts for the Motorcyclist Model need no longer concern himself with the hundreds of types of gloves available to him on the open market, but which violate the spirit of his style. HE NEED ONLY CHOOSE AMONG THE FAR SMALLER REPERTOIRE OF GLOVE TYPES THAT FIT WITHIN THE LIMITS SET BY HIS MODEL. And what is said of gloves is equally applicable to his ideas and social relationships as well.

The commitment to one style of life over another is thus a super-decision. It is a decision of a higher order than the general run of everyday life-decisions. It is a decision to narrow the range of alternatives that will concern us in the future. So long as we operate within the confines of the style we have chosen, our choices are relatively simple. The guidelines are clear. The subcult to which we belong helps us answer any questions; it keeps the guidelines in place.”

There has never been an unbiased news source, but they used to insist on accurate reporting. Now they spin it to their own viewpoint without caring about accuracy, and that includes the New York Times.

If you don’t believe that the CIA puts news stories in the corporate media, and everything they do is “vetted”, then you are truly the delusional one. We have known about this since the 70s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8NlFaHvPHQ

Ah, yes, the wonderful days of yore when a few media sources decided what stories would be reported and the spin put on them, and everyone blithely accepted it.

Look up Walter Duranty the next time you’re inclined to wax rhapsodic about the good old days of the media, Wiley.

I suggest you all look at the history of US journalism and newspapers since and even before the founding. This nation has NEVER had, for lack of a better term, fair and balanced reporting.

However, this nation did have a huge number of competing newspapers with widely divergent views and agendas. In any fair sized town or city you could depend on having at least 2 competing papers. Cities like NY and Chicago had as many as 8 or 9 major or mid sized dailies.

Each paper had an agenda and typically shaped its reporting to fit the mold. The upside was that a person could buy 2 or 3 opposing papers and get a reasonably good idea of what was actually happening in the world.

Sadly, ownership has been concentrated into a very small pool. Nearly all of whom are, politely stated, left of center.

Sadly, some of the usually reliable news sources have started, from either the hate of the current US President or their need to get out in front of everyone, have become unreliable in areas. Too many retractions for stupidity from CNN and NYT over the last year or so.

At least they retract. Fox never retracts a lie. Of course, there isn’t enough time in the world for that.

And it’s not hatred, it’s “disagreement with his policies” as you all explained away your hatred of President Obama.
