Some context- this 2001 comic was inspired by Vermont Republican Senator Jim Jeffords switch to caucusing with the Democrats, giving them control of the Senate. Jeffords stated that policy differences were the reason, but some thought that the Bush administration’s constant snubbing of Jeffords (he wasn’t invited to the Teacher of the Year ceremony, even though the teacher was from Vermont) was the last straw. Jeffords’ Senate seat is now held by Bernie Sanders.
