This toon can only come to pass if the republicans become patriots overnight. That may happen, but I wouldn’t bet on it. When Mueller finishes his criminal investigation, the decision to impeach is (as it always is) a political process. Criminality and treason are possibly not sufficient for the republicans to impeach trump. This is why the 2018 elections are dispositive. As a political process, impeachment need to be overwhelmingly popular or it will not result in removal of the person from office.
So far, it appears the republicans may not even exist as a party post-election if the electoral landslide is severe enough. But the election is still a long way away, and the republicans are doing their mischief as quickly as they can. It’s unethical to ram stuff through without hearings, debate, and a true democratic process, but that certainly hasn’t stopped them yet.
The further back Trump’s swing goes the harder he is going to get hit. After 45 years the Republicans have not learned it is not the crime, it is the cover up. All they have learned is to stack the investigation – they didn’t do it this time, so now they are trying to attack the institutions which protect the American people.
BTW: Gitmo would be a nice “hole” for him and his primary “staff”. But the “Reagan Revolution”, with Meese etc, led to even more power for Rumsfield, master of the “vulcans”, with Cheney and all the others distinctly changed the party for the worse, and fouled/contaminated “tea” has definitely poisoned minds, and destroyed any semblance of ethics in major numbers in the “party of Lincoln”, with civil rights being the broken straw in the southern states. (NO, the “southern Democrats” of old were no better, they just became Republicans.)
Also, even Nixon did many GOOD THINGS, like NEPA, Clean Air Act, etc. to move America forward. Republicans have sought to reverse all that ever since, and Trumpco is the WORST of all on that. Now we are in danger at home (suicide pact) and with threats from the idiot in chief against every other nation on Earth on climate and the UN, even when they SUPPORTED our idiot sanctions on North Korea. It is sad, and gut wrenching, as in vomit worthy, to see where we’re headed without radical change and a good set of brakes on the “ship of state”, Trump being the “captain” of the latter day Titanic. (Or maybe the Lusitania, and Trump’s firing the torpedo hisself._
