thebird55:
I live in a small town near Lake George, NY. Most people are familiar with Lake George because it’s a huge tourist area. It’s a beautiful area with all the seasons represented!
I like to think that everytime one of my dogs have died they went to heaven and they’re all in a group together running around playing together all day. In my ideal heaven we’re all reunited with our pets like we’re reunited with the people we loved and have left before us.
I agree with Dino-1. There is nothing to indicate that animals don’t have souls. If we have them, why should we assume animals don’t? Anyone who has had a pet they loved, knows they have unique personalities.
I also agree with Jelzap—God is God—He’ll figure it all out! But I’m a firm believer that God didn’t make a mistake in the creation of any of life, and that therefore resurrection is not going to be limited to us human-centric creatures.
“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them..” Isiah 11.6
” Let everything that hath breath praise the lord. Praise ye the lord” Psalm 150:6
Dino-1, In my younger days our family spent a lot of vacation time in the Lake George area - a very beautiful area. I was living in Montreal back then.
Geesh! this place is worse than the pitching mound at Peanuts park. Why don’t we try deciding if Batman uses the drive-thru, or who’s richer Thurston Howell III or Jed Clampett?
When I think about the wonderful bond between us and our pets, I cannot imagine that they dont have souls. They know our voices, they read our moods, they soothe us, look forward to us coming home, they forgive us… I say they must go to heaven. Any being that beautiful must. I hope to see mine there… Maybe Hobbes, too….
The Bible is remarkably short on specifics about heaven, hell, angels, and demons. Most of what we “know” about them was made up by theologians in the era when common people were prohibited from reading the Bible for themselves. Yes, there was a time when religion ruled the world; we call it The Dark Ages.
Not exactly true: the common people were not prohibited from reading the Bible–they were illiterate, and so couldn’t read anything.
There were plenty of other contributions to the ignorance of the Dark Ages–a plague probably worse than the Black Death, a breakdown of society and a depression that lasted centuries. In fact, if not for the monks, many of the classical books we have would be totally lost.
The book of Genesis says that, when first created, God gave the plants to animals and humans for food. It was only with the renewed covenant with Noah that animals (meat) became food. Maybe in heaven, only plants will be food again.
True, the white albacore tuna is being overfished, but the cheap skipjack tuna is not in danger at this time. Another benefit to eating the cheap tuna is that it has less mercury than the solid chunk albacore.
Actually twypsi, according to Genesis 2:7 when God breathed the breath of life into the man, he BECAME a living soul. So, we ARE souls, not that we HAVE them. That’s not man made thinking. That’s straight from the scriptures. Just wanted to let you know. :)
Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor mind conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him and are called for His purposes = dunno if I got that exactly right, but you get the idea….amazing discussions for a six year old with an imaginary tiger. Perhaps Calvin would be happier going to more advanced classes in his school….
Your discussions have been thoughtful for the most part, as well as educated. Just look what Calvin and Hobbes have done.
Good Scriptures. The one from Isaiah about the lamb and the Lion is very dear to me. I believe in afterlife and one which is meant for us to share in happiness with the rest of God’s creation. I trust in God and feel that nature is constantly showing us that we will live again season after season.
Thank you bmonk, Final Solution, khpage as well as others
What a hoot you guys.NO beer, travel guide written by people who would kill son because he was told to by some one who was already there.
Me Im gonna catch the tail of a comet ,when the word comes.
I think Calvin’s odds of entering the kingdom of heaven are a wee bit slim, aren’t they - and as for Mom, she’s sure she’s in purgatory already! (especially when Calvin’s off school)
I got it! Tiger Heaven is People Hell. All the bad people are fed to the tigers. The tigers are well fed and have no desire to eat the people in Heaven. Simple!

Hobbes, there will be lots of canned tuna so you won’t have to eat people.
Actually the best idea is to let God deal with it.
