From the Courtroom Scene
(With thanks to “Miracle on 34th Street”)
Prosecution: Your honor, the Prosecution concedes the existence of Calvin’s friend Hobbes. But I request that the Defense now submit authoritative proof that this Internet poster is the one-and-only Hobbes.
Judge: Your point is well taken. I’m afraid I must agree. Is the Defense prepared to show that this Internet poster is the true Hobbes, on the basis of competent authority?”
Defense: Your honor, I have here an Internet post from a wonderful young woman named Rachel, written to the defendant on November 5th. It is addressed simply “Hobbes.” And it says, “You and Calvin are so awesome, Hobbes.” I offer this posting as positive proof that…..
Prosecution: One posting is hardly positive proof.
Defense: Your honor, I have many additional exhibits. All of them are postings that address the defendant simply as “Hobbes,” and all were delivered to the defendant. These were written by highly competent, intelligent adults, from locations all over the world.
Defense: Here is one from Quantumtorpedo1 that says, “Hobbes is real to me. Thank you Hobbes for your presence.” Here is one from GES Who that says, “Hobbes, you are who you say you are.” Here is one from GretchensMom that says, “Hobbes, I believe in both of you!!!!!!!!” Here is one from Grog that says, “Hobbes, I believe even though common sense tells me not to.” Here is one…….
Judge: Grog? Do you mean Grog, the comic strip character from Johnny Hart’s B.C.?
Defense: I believe so, Your Honor. The photo looks exactly like him……. Here is one from Marg that says, “Hobbes: Quite an honor to have you comment yesterday.” Here is one….
Judge: Wait a minute. Marg……. Do you mean margueritem, the world renowned comic strip poster?
Defense: One and the same, Your Honor.
Judge: Since Marg and all of these other people in the global Internet community believe this poster to be Hobbes, this court will not dispute it. Case dismissed.

Have a wonderful Christmas Holiday Season, Marg and everyone else. If possible, be sure to watch “Miracle On 34th Street,” the 1947 version. It’s one of the best movies ever made.
An excellent take from that classic scene in the movie, FYI, I can only watch the original movie with Ed Gwynn’s Oscar-winning role. The courtroom scene with the wonderful characters in such “real life” views was the best.
Merry Christmas to all, including HOBBES and Mr Watterson just in case they aren’t the same person. Still think they are, though. Maybe by the time I return in two+ weeks, we will know the truth. Off to see third son and three teenage grandchildren in IL.
Hobbes, my response last night was inspired by Maureen O’Hara’s line in the original Miracle On 34th Street. A great movie and has a place in my personal Christmas library.
Little Sister:
If you don’t have a sled use a garbage bag. All you need to do is sit inside and hold onto the sides. It works great. I’ve done it several times now. The last time was during our lunch break at work when we got alot of snow and things were slow. We took turns manning the phones for an hour so everybody got several turns and then went in and ate at our desks while we finished our work. Everybody needs to act like a kid now and then, it’s what keeps us young!
I like the annual 24 hours of continuous showing of “A Christmas Story” (You’re gonna shoot your eye out!). It reminds me so much of the Christmases when I grew up in about that time era. And I will forever remember my first BB gun.
I’m glad that Calvin is pondering that good might be more than the absence of malice (“bad”)–since Thomas Aquinas (among others) defined evil as the absence of a good that should be present.
I’m also guessing that since Calvin has such an aversion to Susie (and probably all girls in general), he wouldn’t especially want “8-Maids-A-Milking” either!
Hobbes: Thank you so much for your own special little rendition of the courtroom scene from “Miracle on 34th Street”! I greatly enjoyed it (and thanks for using me in it as part of your “proof of existence” too!). Out of all the different (yet similar) versions of this movie that’s ever been made, the 1947 one with Edmund Gwenn, Maureen O’Hara, and Natalie Wood is my absolute favorite! I’ve already seen it at least 4 times over the last couple of days on AMC … both the b/w and color versions. It’s on at least 4 more times that I know of between now and Christmas so I will be watching it againsoon!!!

Calvin does have a conscience. He just doesn’t let it get the upperhand …
That’s a joke folks.

The inquiring soul might ask what Calvin could do if Santa brougt lords-a-leaping and geese-a laying.
No, Calvin does not practice cannibalism. But I imagine Mom and Dad have been tempted from time to time.

Calvin problem is he doesn’t understand Santa’s rules. But then again as a child, neither did I.

I beg to differ on the adult part (at least for me) of Hobbes’ comment but i’m still glad with the outcome.
