When I was a kid, blowing cigarette smoke into the affected ear was considered a form of “treatment”.

Purpose? Not to learn anything, but to annoy the teacher.

“Call your folks and go home.” Does this kid even have parents? We never see them. But apparently, if he does, they’re the kind who can just drop everything in the middle of the day and take the rest of the day off to tend to a sick kid. Yeah, that’s totally realistic.

I will always fondly remember Caulfield’s reaction when Mrs. Olsen was afflicted with sciatica, and Frazz explained to him just what that entailed:

    “I’VE BEEN REPLACED???”

Ahh, delight at being reminded that he makes his teachers miserable. What a great kid. What an amazing talent. What a wonderful human being. Who’s just bored, remember, not mean in any way.

Ear aches can be very painful. Hand problems with one ear infection for years. Sometimes it would literally bubble.

If misery loves company but company doesn’t love misery back, where does that leave misery? Such a woeful tale of unrequited love.

Though my sympathy is limited. Misery isn’t always so good at taking “no” for an answer, and then it’s just harassment.

I’m waiting for Mrs. Olsen to say “earache, my eye” and watching her and Caulfield riff on that.
