A mastodon skeleton was discovered near here (well, on an island about 20 miles from here) in 2016. No snow here; it was sticking out of a sand dune. Another one was found in 2002 and a third in 2005; neither on that island. Come on over.
There’s a Mastodon skeleton in the small town of Monroe, NY – a complete specimen, no less – that actually was discovered by a local kid. His father didn’t believe him, of course.
I remember when a friend of mine stuck in outback Alaska and needing money found an odd looking “rock” sticking out of a river bank. he dug it out and kept digging when he found that it was a mastodon tusk still attached to the skull, and the other tusk, and the spine, and ribs, and the whole darn beast.

Don’t fret, Junior. There will be lots of things in this world you’ll wish you’d never discovered.

The Mole People take them back to their lairs while still under the cover of snow. Less chance of being seen.

He got the money he needed to get out of town.

Just don’t mention anything about Mastodon skeletons to Ray Romano.
