I lived in San Antonio from 1985 to 1998, the George Gervin to David Robinson eras. Then SA was the 9th or 10th largest city, but only the 38th standard metropolitan area. No ’burbs. It is a small market town. When they built the Alamodome they only put in 36 boxes (executive suites?). No big industrial base.
Speaking of Austin, they want the Columbus Crew soccer team to relocate there. Austin must be weird. Who actually WANTS a soccer team in a city? What a waste of money.
Austin has something for everybody but I like Ft. Davis and the Big Bend area as a really laid back relaxing area. Ft. Davis can be cool, even in the hottest part of the Summer.

Austin is already in the Spurs TV market, and the whole Central Texas region has about 5 million. It’s of a reasonable size by most marketing standards, but NBA basketball has weird prejudices. A few clubs are considered “national,” and the rest are just holding areas till they get a chance to jump to one of these — the opposite of the NFL’s attempts to build parity.

Alamo’s not something a resident person would go to on a regular basis and there’s that 100 degF weather. Riverwalk is nice though.

Most cities have bats in their belfry. Not Austin, they have them in Congress Street bridge.

I would want to leave Texas as well. Kawhi might be a good 8th or 9th man for the Warriors.
