I wonder if this is how people actually think. Do you care about the political affiliation of your barber/stylist, insurance agent, grocery clerk, physician, children’s teacher…
@Darkeforce: To say that the “gullible and simple-minded” vote Republican seems to me to be a bit of non sequitur. The gullible and simple-minded appear to be quite nonpartisan.
Darkforce - Thank God you have the solution. Those jangling keys are just too shiny for us to ignore. When will you and your Democratic comrades have that test ready for us to take to prove our knowledge of the candidates and their platforms?
Ok, if you guys really want to get into your boring partisan political rants, may I suggest you take over to Candorville today, which is more directly hitting on that subject? Thanks.
Wiley – I appreciate your frustration; you thought you were making a safely non-partisan quip.
But how do you still not get this? Those who are given to commenting on comic strips, of all things, need only the slightest excuse – say, waking up on a day that ends with a “y” – to climb up on their soap boxes to deliver their pet rant, without which the rest of the world will continue to suffer in benighted ignorance.
I tried this for many years, but there are too many people that keep voting them back in, so I gave up. Nothing I do matters. Especially in presidential elections, where my vote literally means nothing.
It is amazing to me how Americans are absolutely convinced that getting good government is all about voting for one of the two parties that have been ignoring their collective interests for as long as anyone can remember.
Depending on the source of statistics there is between 20 and 40% of the eligible US population not registered to vote… then from this fraction there is 50 to 60% voter turnout at each election… so, being generous, there are just under half of the posters here with a valid reason to complain/celebrate about the current administration.
For the non voting percentage - doesn’t it disturb you that you are gleefully placing your life under the control of curmudgeons like those shown in the strip today?
Wasn’t it Starship Troopers (the Heinlein book, not the movie I missed - meh) that required prior service (either military or other) to vote?
Here are the four essential parts of elections that cannot be concealed from the public: look for them.
a. Who can vote (the voters list)
b. Who voted (the polling place sign in book)
c. Whether ballots counted are same ones as were cast (chain of custody)
d. Whether the count was accurate (public count)
If a corporation is doing the counting, in a closed back room out of your oversight, Uncle Joe Stalin’s statement applies; “The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”.

Why do we keep voting bums in?
thirdguy about 14 years ago
We vote them in because they promise us stuff. Then they get in, and they become more devoted to keeping their jobs, than keeping their promises.

Which party does Glen Beck support? I think I’ll vote for the other party. No need to know issues.

It’s not so much a choice between the lesser of two evils, as it is the evil of two lessers…

Well, at least the wingnuts can’t threaten armed rebellion or presidential assasination anymore.

Just as I’m doing right now, of course….

Oh, I get it, Scatty. I’m just trying to help steer them into a forum where it’s more appropriate.

A funny thing happened on the forum…….
In Muskogee, OK someone rented a billboard and had this posted “You can’t fix stupid. But you can vote it out.”

In Starship Troopers, service was required for citizenship. Most people were just residents.
