“What did you do?” is TOTALLY the wrong thing to say. You’re judging the person before hearing any of the story. It presumes guilt for someone who may be the injured party. “What happened?” is better.
When my sister divorced her emotionally abusive husband, my parents asked her what she did. Like it was all her fault, when the total reverse was true. They just assumed she was at fault. It’s put a rift there that may never be fully healed.
Yes, it’s just a comic strip, but we should treat each other thoughtfully and not just out of habit.
