How embarrassing that Chief of Detectives Tracy has to find out from a dreaded Newspaper Man that a major crime Lord is renting an apartment in Tracyville!
Actually, Tracy has always had a friendly relationship with newspapermen. Several stories depicted the papers cooperating with the police (See, for example, 3D Magee and Pony). Chester Gould wrote it that way because he himself felt a deep gratitude to newspapers. It was only later writers who introduced Wendy and she is from the TV news, anyway.
Okay they drew the Hornet in his TV outfit. Green hat, scarf, overcoat, and, a form fitting mask (presumably with the Hornet emblem ). But that gun Brit is holding in that thought balloon doesn’t look like the gas gun he’s supposed to be using.
If I were Tracy I would be thinking, “Why didn’t the Central City police notify our department? Why do I have to hear this from a newspaper man? Does he know something that the police don’t?”
I am witnessing a first here….two syndicates are sharing this strip. (byline running vertical between the first and second panel) Plus the other one in front of the third panel. Will the date be inserted between panels now as opposed to within the strip as it was during Chester Gould and his contempories?
The first year I had a store bought Halloween costume it was the Green Hornet. I think I must have been about five or six. I had so much fun with it, my heart was broken when the show got cancelled.
We’re still in the set-up exposition stage, action fans. Now that Mr. Reid, mysterious visitor from Central City, has tipped the Tracyville LEOs, the actual adventure may begin; and I expect that accordingly Kato will soon appear, along with the Black Beauty. In fact, even now I think I’m hearing faint strains of “Flight of the Bumblebee”….

Good morning™, Apparatus watchers!
So, Topper came to meet up with the Apparatus, the Green Hornet (and Britt, of course) followed.

I wonder if there’ll be any Lone Ranger references in this story, since Britt Reid is his descendant.

“Hey, what an amazing coincidence – the parts of the Green Hornet’s face not covered up by his mask and hat look just like yours, Mr. Reid!”

Why would the publisher follow Topper? Phones and computers could keep him on top of the story without ever leaving home.

Mr. Reid is making sure that the local police have all the data, which is sparse, on the GH and his man and his armored limousine.
