Go down the road until you see the red barn then turn left go on that road until you see this HUGE oak tree on your right and then take the next left. You’ll go by this farm that has Belgian Horses in the field (they kinda look like Clydesdales) and then take the next right. You’ll see a huge white house with green shutters on the corner and then about mile later, you’re there.
Generally speaking, its kind of hard to drive “as the crow flies” since that refers to in a straight line, regardless of obstacles like, say, buildings, or lack of roads. How about some realistic directions?
The best directions I have ever had were “go to the end of the pavement and turn left”. Sounds logical, except that the real pavement end is about 400 yards past the turnoff, but everyone knew that it ended there, so they gave directions based on their end of the pavement.
The next best was to “go to the end of 12th, turn right one block, turn right, and it was the second house on the left”. Everyone who knew the area turned right 4 blocks early because “12th doesn’t go any further” even though it does.

About a mile & a half past the end of the pavement, take a left at the tractor tire.

I knew a man who gave directions like crabbyrino gave, and he was always right.

How far is it if the crow has to walk and carry a gas can?
