By tomorrow’s strip, I’m sure we’ll see Axel with his chaperoning older brother.

Fay has two mommies.

I like this development. And Fay, caught in her lie, may well need two mothers!

Good. Smart Move on Luann’s part.

But what’s her story gonna be when Momma Garcia asks WHY they’re back so early? Does Lu tell the truth?

But let’s say they DON’T go. WHAT would stop Luann dead in her tracks from taking Fay back home? Some “guy” perhaps?

Hmmmmm……,

Luann said the date is over. Taking Fay home without attending the movie is too harsh. Fay didn’t tell Luann that there is a chaperone – and maybe Luann too. Hopefully Fay will think to quickly explain. But yes – Fay needs to go to the restroom and get her old persona back.

Fay has made the move from being an innocent, sympathetic character to being basically like a young, duplicitous Tiffany. Is the moral of this story supposed to be “Getting good at drama makes you evil!”

Fay may catch a break if Axel shows up right now with his brother, hopefully 5-10 years older. A combination of Luann being attracted and the brother being suave could save the evening.

Fay is so well drawn in the second frame – reflecting experience way beyond her years.

As several posters observed yesterday, Fay’s appearance is not extreme and probably represents no more than tween experimentation. The real issue at hand is not a matter of her appearance, but a matter of her integrity.

Whoa, Fay, you sure know how to dress and paint yourself pretty for a date. Glad Luann stopped you. You don’t need to look 18 until you are 18. Is Luann taking her home or merely telling her to remove make up but will proceed to chaperon the date?

Fay is oddly down with this? I thought she’d pitch a fit!

No such thing as teensie-weensie lying or deception. Be honest, or be lonely and friendless.

Boy, Fay got out of hand quickly! And Luann, she forgot quickly that she was chided by Mrs. Garcia once already, Luann should remember she doesn’t like Fay doing the dating thing. Even I didn’t forget!Why Luann did? Like Fay was actually going to tell her mom.Now I wonder if Aaron Hill is Axel’s brother! Oh boy!- It’s a small world after all.

It has turned into a good cliffhanger. I was falling asleep with Fay at this point. I bet Luann will have more fun than poor Fay at this point. Getting good!Hope it won’t dissapoint!

Luann is doing the right thing. I hope she gets Faye to confess to her mother too. Otherwise, if her mom finds out (actually WHEN she finds out), she will no longer trust Luann.

Tbh she looks horrible with all that stuff on her compared to normal. But I guess that is something you need to learn – that the natural look is usually the better.

I’m betting they will stay, Luann and “the chaperone” will sit together and the two “kids” will sit on either side of them, hence NO DATE happens.

My guess is they will stay. Otherwise the whole arc really goes nowhere. We want to see Axel’s brother… can’t pull the plug on this now.

Boy, Luann got oddly frumpy all the sudden! Next thing you know she’ll be keeping her room clean and raising decent kids and we’ll all be following another comic.

Does this take you back to when YOU were Faye’s age, Luann? I wouldn’t be surprised if you did something like this with Aaron Hill back in the day.

I find it strange that Luann thought a date with Axel was fine with Mom. Fay didn’t tel lher she got her mother’s permission. Why would Luann assume Helicopter Mom was fine with it when lots of NON-helicopter moms wouldn’t be?

I feel like I’m reliving my Freshman year in high school! This is similar to my first date. My dad drove me and my best friend to the movies (“Towering Inferno”). I neglected to mention we were meeting up with boys for a movie date!

This new found maturity from Luann is totally disrupting my biorhythms.

Well played, Luann! This works on several levels. It shows Fay that cheating/lying/hiding the truth (whatever Fay imagines it to be) is not tolerable behavior. That corrective behavior is exhibited by adults other than (shudder) parents.

And! As I mentioned yesterday. Not only is Luann channeling her mother in actions and mannerisms – she looks like Nancy too (hair color aside).

Now let’s see how she handles the situation inside with “the Bro”. (Who just might be Bernice’s long lost bro too.)

For those of us (myself included) that have chided Greg & Co. about Luann becoming irrelevant in her own strip, we should be delighted over the past few weeks.

I know, I know! The cliffhangers dealing with the supporting characters have us all atwitter. But it IS her strip after all.

Perhaps what is coming inside The Fuze will take Luann to new places. Hmmmm?? :o)

Another reason I love Luann. When it isn’t all about her, she can be decisive.

But we don’t want to break Axel’s heart.

Excellent Lu! Way to accept “parental” responsibility! You’ll well on your way to becoming an excellent Mom.

That said, I do hope she hasn’t/doesn’t destroy/ed the progress she’s made with Fay as a result of this action. Yes, I agree that it will be difficult for her to explain the “early return.” We’ll have to see if that happens. I hope not. Hopefully, Lu will fire up those “negotiation” skills and convince Fay of the need to curtail this “date.” Then again, maybe Mr. Jock is the “older brother…” So it might happen anyway….

Well Luann being responsible, even parental!! Will woinnders never cease? Actually I hope that sentence drips with irony for those anti-Luann posters here. Fay looks so cute and funny with that lipstick on and her hair down, although the hair is fine, but I hope Axel shows up with the brother, and as KH said above, Luann is intrigued, as is the brother, while Axel is cool, and they still date, but Axel tells Fay just be you, that is what I like. That would make everybody happy. Of course she still would have to face mom eventually, but she would not care, Fay I mean. Still love the little twerp.

An aside: Several comments complaining about “cliffhangers” in Luann. What cliffhangers?

Good job, Luann!

I am very hopeful that when you take Fay home, you will have Fay explain to Mrs. Garcia (in your presence) the whole situation. In this way, Fay can grow as a person, Mrs. Garcia can better understand her daughter’s actions, and Mrs. Garcia can better understand your own thoughts and actions.

The “Ouch, But Apparently” comment from Luann was also very good. It highlighted that what Fay said was rather harsh/mean spirited….. but also highlighted that this current situation is not Luann’s fault…. but is instead Fay’s fault.

I say Aaron Hill is in the Fuse waiting with Axel.

Hmm…I was just wondering – instead of Axel’s “big brother” being a half- or step-brother (because I’m sure Luann knows Axel’s last name from the program of “Quibbling Siblings”), maybe he is one as in “Big Brothers, Big Sisters”. That would make Axel’s situation more similar to Fay’s. Axel [to BB]: “Okay, I did tell my mom you were taking me to the Fuse, but I did leave out the part that I was meeting someone for a date.”

But Luann play-acted being Axel to coach Fay in asking him for a date, and lied to Fay’s mother about what they were doing.

…Like I said yesterday, “Wipe off that gunk!”

Luann got the “mom slouch” down pretty well!

The shared movie with Axel and a chaperone is not the kind of “date” parents of young teens are supposed to prohibit. In my view, omitting disclosure of the presence of Axel in this case WAS only a teensie lie. However Fay had poor judgment in her over the top effort to look sexy – creating the appearance of a very serious date. Kids Fay’s age should be encouraged toward some activity in public – activities with a start time and an end time.

Still no Fay on Meet the Gang.

Fay would have to take off her lipstick and fix her hair before she got home anyway.

@KENHENSE: Sorry, but omitting to mention the presence of Axel was NOT a teensy lie. First of all, given how quickly Fay was morphing from shy kid to hot little number, it looks to me as if this is not the first ‘teensy’ lie the young actress has engaged in. Secondly, it’s NEVER a small thing to not tell your parent that you are going on a date with a chaperone, and NOT just catching a movie with a mentor/teacher. If this was my kid and I found out about this deception, I’d be very hesitant to even leave her for an hour with that mentor; I’d figure I had to stay there the whole time, because she might tell her mentor a ‘teensy’ lie about needing the restroom and instead sneak off to see Romeo…

Calling it now, they wait for the boy to show up so they can tell him they have to cancel the movie, but his older brother who is chaperoning him is Luann’s age and totally hot

Good going Luann. Nip this out of control sequence of events in the bud. If there is no trust or honesty there can be no working relationship, Luann has realized.

@SCHRODINGER’S DOG: It’s not just about being duped into being a co-conspirator, it’s also totally being manipulated. “I only told a teensie lie”. Yeah, right. Same amount of respect that Fay shows her mother. The Hebrew word is pronounced ‘keetzat’. Meaning a very tiny amount…

Back in the 7th or 8th grade I would have been in awe over a girl who looked so grown up, wearing makeup like Fay. No harm, just fascination.

She has crossed the line, twice. Sorry kid lying is a bad habit, and needs to be broken NOW.

Luann now sees things from Mrs. Garcia’s perspective. She’s only known Fay for a few months while Mrs. Garcia knows Fay inside out and may have prior similar experience. Fay is a study in contrasts, one moment the shy timid adolescent and next the confident girl who goes for what she wants, like when she was auditioning for Quibbling Siblings. She starts out in a timid low voice and then springs into action as another person entirely. She’s an interesting character.

This faux-ending being only Thursday’s strip, we have at least two more days of this storyline. Who might show up as Fay’s brother? Will Luann’s new-found maternal sternness prevail?

Good girl, Luann! Now, if Aaron Hill happens to be Axel’s older brother….things might be different.
