We used to find weather balloons on grandpa’s farm quite often. Sometimes three a week. They would float down on parachutes and we’d fill out the attached card as to where they were found and put the radiosonde in the mailbox for the postman to take. We got to keep the small parachutes and me and my brother had a ball with them, finding things to drop out of the upper hay loft of the barn with the parachutes. We’d even fly them like kites in strong winds, or tie two or three to our belts and see how fast we could run with them. Or we’d carry them on our bicycles and use them to stop us like dragster cars.

No Red, you won’t, but some poor animals will, try to eat it and possibly die. Don’t do this!

Wow. I knew a dogs hearing is very acute, but I didn’t know they could hear the difference between homonyms.

Love this. Hey – how about having him find out why he shouldn’t release balloons? A lot of people don’t know and Red’s such a cute way to find out!

I HATE balloon releases. Whales and endangered turtles starving to death because their guts are filled with balloons is super cruel. I take care of 5 acres of land, and I pick up an average of four balloons a year that have fallen. Multiply that by the size of the Earth, and that’s a scary number. I’ve also found balloons from Disney World on the NC coast which have floated in. At the very least use a balloon that biogrades.
