We used to find weather balloons on grandpa’s farm quite often. Sometimes three a week. They would float down on parachutes and we’d fill out the attached card as to where they were found and put the radiosonde in the mailbox for the postman to take. We got to keep the small parachutes and me and my brother had a ball with them, finding things to drop out of the upper hay loft of the barn with the parachutes. We’d even fly them like kites in strong winds, or tie two or three to our belts and see how fast we could run with them. Or we’d carry them on our bicycles and use them to stop us like dragster cars.
