You have to work at it which includes a weight lifting program and eating well. That doesn’t mean starving yourself or eating nothing but health food. Less carbs more good protein. I am better at 60 than I was at 40.
When I went to my 25th HS reunion the women looked much better than the men. I did not recognize most of the men, they had changed a lot more than the women.
Women are expected to keep up our looks and figures, but not necessarily our muscles. I think Janis is just saying she hadn’t thought about the pressure (whether internally or externally imposed) on men to stay muscular. These expectations are a tough challenge for everyone as we age, and we really ought to focus on staying healthy instead of worrying about how we look to others. Healthy typically results in looking better too.
Oddly enough I had quite the middle age spread, but then, my wife started cooking more carefully when her diabities got worse, and I started to lose weight. That and we both started going to the gym 2-3 times a week. I lost about 50 lbs. She’s not down quite that much.

Oh, I don’t know. They don’t have as much that sags as we do.

Yeah, we do, Charlie. I hang over my belt, in spite of dieting all year and working out daily.

What is Arlo whining about now? He still has good circulation; he goes to bed w/no kind of shirt, or does he have the heat jacked up?

Whereas Janis just looks better and better.

It’s part of aging. You get aches and pains, parts of you stiff where you don’t want to be and can’t get stiff reliably when you want it to.
