So can we get copies of these studies that show ankle reinforcement is so good for our health so that I can take my cats expenses off on my taxes as a health deduction? ;)
I have a one level home – no stairs, no cliffs. But I do have lots of rugs – does that count to get me more ankle reinforcement? I say yes, it DOES! My cats care about me so much. One of them even tripped me into falling and hitting a piece of furniture. She loves me.
The People should try and bottle Puck’s love and encouragement. He’s better than St. John’s Wort or aromatherapy. “Tincture of Puck” – sold in better health food stores. Look for Puck’s picture on the label. Accept no substitutes.
Feeding and treat time are usually the only times I get ankle rubs. Very rarely when one of the three cats want something else, or are trying to con me out of more food or treats.
Looks like they’re involving both People in this segment. We’re starting with Woman in jammie pants & socks, and end with Man being herded to the empty bowl. Bowls? I think he’s the softer touch for the “We’re starving! See, they’re empty! SOMEONE forgot to feed us!”
Works good if there’s no set rule about WHO feeds them! Worked wonderfully well in Mom’s Victorian moneytrap. With so many mouths, we never remembered who fed ’em last. They were masters of the guilt game. ;-D
What a nice way to start a rainy Sunday morning SHAUNNMUNN. Thank you always for your positivity and sunshine. Boops back to everyone in the orb.
Bogie and I are snuggling in bed this morning with the heating pad, watching the hummingbirds dancing back and forth in front of the feeder.
The wild turkeys have been very active and we even found one of their eggs on the path. We moved it under some long grass and hope mama will come back for it. Enjoy this beautiful Sunday (rain can be beautiful too :) and thank you to Georgia for sharing her beautful family life with us.
My sister had a black lab who was raised by my cats from the time he was weaned, so Oliver thought he was a cat. He gave nose kisses instead of licks, washed himself like his Momma Rachael taught him, and dug holes to potty in. (Covered it up, too.) Unfortunately, he also picked up the “ankle reinforcement” from them. If you think a cat weaving between your legs is bad when you’re trying to carry something, try having a full-grown lab do it! I sure do miss my Ollie-pup. He was such a sweet baby. (Almost 18 when we lost him)
Ankle rubs (or any kitty rub) is more of a sign of possession than it is affection. They are marking you as “MINE” with their scent glands. With multiple cats, this phenomenon is more common because they compete for “ownership”.
I finally book a copy of the BCN book to but in a little free library. I wrote a note in the front cover encouraging them to check out the rest of the strips online. Hopefully it finds its way to many future BCN fans.
Our old biddy cat lays in wait on the bathmat outside the shower so that she may a) lap up any remaining shower water as is her due, and b) make sure she rubs those slightly damp ankles to mark them properly because the st00pid human has washed away the ownership tag. Any tripping of the human that happens as s/he exits the shower is purely coincidental to the plan.
Personally, I’ve never met a grown cat small enough to rub my ankles. On the other hand (or leg), they’re incorrigible with the tail-taps and -wraps on my calves.
But more importantly, as the grown-up in the room - cats are, after all, the reason we have the expression “adult supervision” - it’s my responsibility to get my head down on their level and ensure they’ve been thoroughly dad-scented.
Happy Sunday everyone!! (((( Hugs & good thoughts to all of you that need them ))))) I don’t mean to sound generic. So please don’t take me wrong . :-( You’re all great!
At our house, this is called The Cross Body Block. It happens every morning when my husband goes downstairs to feed Earlie, whilst I am yelling “careful! careful”!
Both Sally and Linus are expert “reinforcers”, but poor Charlie Brown has never quite figured it out….he stops in front of you, too far away to “reinforce”, then tries to lean over enough to reach…and he either loses his balance (yeah, I know, but Charlie is “special”) and kinda falls into your feet/ankles, or he panics cuz he’s falling and he runs away.

That’s some definite strategic planning on the Boys part. Oh look – the food bowl. What a surprise.

That’s it Elvis, rub that smell around. It also works to keep outside cats from trying to claim your People.

The more a human is carrying, the more their ankles need encouragement.

Did I hear someone say that, one time, a cat was rubbing its person’s ankle and a genie popped out? (Okay, maybe I didn’t hear that.)

My second cat was such a continual (almost continuous) ankle reinforcer that it earned him his name: Underfoot.

I love Lupin’s three-frame chart – note that in the third frame, the cat is pushing the human with its paw!

This strip is funny right up until the last panel when Puck says, “Oh my, what have we here?” Then it is hilarious! Still makes me laugh out loud.

I don’t see cats rubbing the ankles of humans off a cliff… but the day is still young..

I always thought that cat herding meant herding the cats, not their humans.

Good morning and happy Bunday, orbsters and orbabies! Hugs, bumps and boops to all.
Yum Yum punctuates her ankle rubs and “people herding” with loud Siamese yells. Usually it means that we are heading away from the treats.

Is it just me, or does it look like the cat is trying to push the person off the cliff in panel six?
On a side note, BCN’s hit 9,000 followers! Whoo-hoo!

I’m sure that cats do share information with each other on the proper care and handling of humans. It can’t all be instinctive.

Humans shouldn’t be left behind,
Ankle rubs really are just fine,
Show the world the Humans are mine
I’ve spent most of my life,
Teaching how to take care of cats,
Showing info on doing that!
How to walk without going splat!
I’ve spent most of my life,
!!!!!!!
Writing up charts, letting them show!
Telling the Humans all that they should know!
Know that you know, what we all love,
Going to the food bowls just takes a small shove!
!!!!!!!
Writing charts,
We show it, not a quiz,
It’s where the food bowl is!
Writing charts,
Whatever they don’t know,
We have a chart to show!
We have a chart to show!
