For some of us at least, there is a useful comparison, in terms of (potential) interwoven plot structure within an overarching story line, to TV’s DS9 (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), which, more than any of the other sister series, had a Grand Plot that tied together all the more or less stand-alone episodes….
.
DS-9 and Voyager were my favorite Next Gen series. DS was that network’s version of Babylon 5, with it’s Dominion and B-5’s Shadow people; a constant background “noise” with occasional bursts of activity while other “stand alone” stories came and went. Voyager was like a sort of cross between Gilligan’s Island and Lost In Space; with them stranded far from home and their rigid military structure relaxing to a more family like feel as the usual military conventions slacked a bit but were never far away and then front and center when things got tight.
The “Bellowthon unpleasantness” was a good reminder that the intolerant and narrow-minded will always be with us, and must always be resisted. Bellowthon saw the Lunarians as freaks to be persecuted, while Tracy reminded Honeymoon of our principles, history and diversity. It’s no surprise that Mysta is popular and “out on tour.” Her intelligence, kind nature, and good looks make for a powerful presence. Diet Smith is wise to have created this Moon Compound. The “Bellowthon unpleasantness” was a good reminder that the intolerant and narrow-mindedness of political correctness will always be with us, and must always be resisted. Bellowthon saw the Lunarians as a potentially unknown source of dangerous power and introduced bill 6947 as a way of keeping them in check. She was looking out for the welfare of the majority of her constitutes, not just a select few. I wish every politician did that. Mindy already showed us that she has a bad temper and isn’t afraid to use her laboratory created powers. While it’s wonderful that Tracy reminded Honeymoon of our principles, history and diversity, he neglected to remind her that everyone has an obligation to obey the law. It’s no surprise that Bellowthon was drawn in such an unflattering way by team Tracy as a way of influencing the reader to think of her in a negative light. Just in case some have forgotten, she gave her life due to her honesty. Most readers thought she was in on the scam with Selfie but in fact she wasn’t. Just because someone wants to do something doesn’t always mean they should be allowed to do it. Checks and balances should always be in place or else we will have anarchy. A law enforcement leader such as Tracy should know that.
Bellowthon was honest? She seemed more reactionary and xenophobic to me. Checks and balances? Sure, but not to justify persecution against certain people just because they’re different. Honeymoon and Mysta are American citizens, and to push legislation designed to promote fear and paranoia against two Americans citizens just because they are different is evil.
Mysta had anger issues at one point, yes. But that anger was fueled by the mental torture she received from Bribery’s gang, who had convinced her she was someone she was not. Once the haze of her torture cleared, she got over the anger and has become a bright, talented, and compassionate person. She has used her powers only in self-defense, and heroically and selflessly at times to subdue criminals who were intent on inflicting mayhem. The same is true of Honeymoon.
Mysta was created by Bribery for wicked purposes, but now she has rejected all that and wants to redeem herself by helping others, earning an income, educating herself, mentoring Honeymoon, etc. She was an evil person before she was kidnapped, but now she’s good! Mysta’s awesomeness is tied directly to the fact that she is a force for righteousness largely because of and in spite of the efforts of very evil men. Great irony! It’s a big part of her charm and what makes her such a sympathetic character and one I love to root for. Clearly, her outward beauty wonderfully reflects her inward beauty.
Bellowthon represented what is ugly about American society. Though she did not do anything illegal, she conspired with lowlifes like Selfy to promote fear and intolerance. I think it was entirely appropriate that she was drawn ugly, and though I don’t take any glee in her demise, I’m not sorry she’s no longer around to persecute Mysta and Honeymoon.
I noticed a reference to IDW #24 and the moonie stuff" Fortunately there isn’t that much of it, as even Max Collins in his intro indicates this arc got old. Why it’s revived now seems odd.
Looks like Smith Industries is cautiously testing breaking out into competition with the Disney theme parks! Moon Stuff does have an appeal. Our local community college features a small museum with linkage to an astronaut. But I think its part here will be to attract unwanted attention….

Hmm. If Elon or Jeff visit Moon Valley, there’s going to be a lot of abandoned Lunarian technology to pick over.

“Arrived”? Where did Mysta Chimera arrive from? Perhaps “appeared” would be a more appropriate term.

Does the Lunarian have a name yet? Or are we still referring to him as the former Moon Governor?
