As my cats have always told me – well, intimated by their expressions and body language – at least give me the chance to turn my nose up at whatever you’re eating.
Best way to eat hot chili, at least in my opinion, is with plenty of crackers crumbled into the chili, lots and lots of sour cream, plenty of shredded cheese, and a tall glass of milk or lemonade. Now if it’s my mom’s blue flames chili (she had some idiot at work nearly twenty years ago say now one around here could make it hot enough for him so she took her already quite spicy chili and increased it’s spice to the point where this guy dubbed it blue flames chili) I’d have to add playing the big band tune Blue Flame
Now remember Puck, smell first then if you’re really sure just a tiny taste with the tongue tip. If you survive that encounter then go for the whole spoonful … I’m sure the Man will share ;-)
My Figaro was known to “assist” me in the consumption of curry (back when I could eat it, darn GERD) but I never had chili in his presence .. I’m sure he would have sampled that too :-) That boy had the oddest likings of people food of any cat I’ve owned. Current two don’t even show interest in bacon – an embarrassment to cats everywhere
To dream the impossible dream, to fight the unbeatable foe, to bear with unbearable sorrow, to run where the brave dare not go! You can do it Puck! :D That song really needs a good lyric mangling by the talented Kitty Katz. My mom used to sing us that song when I was little. :-)
Chili, phah! Note: we didn’t give this to them by themselves Murka reeaaly like mustard with horseradish (you maybe know, that this is more spicy than wasaby)! She liks all plate while my dad wasn’t seeing it. Pussya is another story: she’s drinking vodka with bite of black olives. Gavrusha like human meat…. Our family is very strange and funny)
Our cat Buddy discovered chili once. He got so excited, he jumped up on the stove and started eating right out of the pot that was on top of a lit burner. When the hubby went to stop him, Buddy tripped on the handle of the pot and we had chili everywhere in the kitchen. We had to lock the cat in the bathroom so he wouldn’t eat it off the floor. And no, he did not throw up.
I haven’t made chili in quite a while, but I used to have a cat that seem to prefer hamburg from chili and tacos. My chili wasn’t ever overly spicy though.
Bootsie may not appreciate mild spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, but he will have no problem recognizing the spice from hot peppers like jalapenos and chili peppers. That’s because the “heat” doesn’t come from the taste of the pepper but from a reaction to the capsaicin they contain. The capsaicin irritates pain sensors in your cat’s mouth just as it does in yours. It’s a sensation Bootsie won’t be pleased with and it’s the reason why you shouldn’t feed him spicy peppers or hot sauce.
Prefers Warm Temps to Hot Taste
The smell may bring your cat running, but the texture and temperature of food are what entice him to eat it. Bootsie’s instincts are to eat warm meat, like a freshly caught bird or mouse, instead of something like a stuffed pepper that gets its heat from spices.
Your Sense of Taste Is Better Than Bootsie’s
Your cat will tell you he is more advanced than you in every way, but he can’t legitimately claim that about his sense of taste. Bootsie has fewer than 500 taste buds on his little pink tongue; you have close to 9,000 of them. True, his tongue can sand the finish off the dining room table, but yours can be used to identify and enjoy more complex tastes than his. While your cat knows the difference between salty and bitter or sour foods, spicy tastes don’t register with him.*
Patch used to beg for Taco Bell taco’s from me, I didn’t use the HOT sauce, just medium which is still a little spicy. She also liked banana’s which are quite fragrant and the other cats we’ve had literally turn their nose up at.
I love all the Breaking cats, but Pucky, you have my heart: To dream … the impossible dream …To fight … the unbeatable foe …To bear … with unbearable sorrow …To run … where the brave dare not go …To right … the unrightable wrong …To love … pure and chaste from afar …To try … when your arms are too weary …To reach … the unreachable star ..

Those sources Elvis mentioned are wrong, Puck. Believe in yourself! Dare to dream. Put your other paw on the Man’s arm and give him the Big Eyes.

Has Burt actually tried any chili? Or is this banner more a “they say that …”?
But either way, I can see Elvis waiting and watching for Puck to be the first to try it.

Well, at least it looks as if the Man’s hand has healed and someone must have managed to mop up the medium water fall.
But where is Lupin?!

Believe in yourself all you like, Puck. When you try that chili, you’ll discover that reality doesn’t care. Either you can take it, or you can’t.

Two classic aphorisms about chili -
Good chili makes your forehead damp, great chili makes your eyeballs sweat!
There is such a thing as too many habeñeros.

The biggest problem with cats eating chili is that the cats’ poop will REEK!
