Pop the seal by using blunt end of an old-fashioned church key. Or put on your dish-washing gloves to easily grip the lid and the jar. Turn one or the other :)
I live at high altitude. Usually, three different people in my house have to try to open a jar (typically packed at sea level) before someone succeeds. We frequently resort to running hot water over the lid and whacking it on the edge of the counter. I’ll have to try some of the tips others have posted.
I never thought of those as “child proof lids.” And I am 75 years old. I just thought of them as hard to open jars. Some of the prescription meds I get from the VA pharmacy have child proof caps. But, some of those child-proof caps can be changed to “easy to open.” You have to remove the cap from the bottle. Then you push the top of the cap down. Since most of the pill bottles are the same size, it’s easy just to switch lids to a new bottle when one gets empty.

Some of those lids tax even the younger set. And let’s not even start on how impossible it is to open some plastic packaging.
