Think of it this way Earl. Imagine Opal only moves a laundry basket. She never cooks. She never does laundry, just moves the basket. She doesn’t clean the house. Now do you think what you do is so great?

I had goats.

They were fun.

Then THEY had goats and more goats and the kids soon had more kids and…I intended to eat them just as soon as I had one I didn’t know by name but my memory is too good so I finally sold all of them to my cousin Wayne. I didn’t care if he ate them or simply sold them to the folks who like to roast a goat on July 4.

Then I had to go back to mowing.

I miss my goats. Maybe I’ll….

The humor of understatement.

Obviously Earl’s comments were way beyond Nelson’s understanding if he heard only the parts about goats.

Who wears two layers outside in June? And is that a sweater? Yikes!

If.. that was a traditional marriage of the times.. Earl spent his life working to create that house.. and Opal was a traditional housewife.. there is retirement from a life of working for wages.. not so much for the housewife.. sad but that is the way it works.

I hope he gets a goat too, just because it would be great, but also, look at that lawn!
