By “character” does Dad mean being miserable?

Trust me Calvin, you do NOT want to try and build character in a casino! That would be a failed IQ test.

Besides, Calvin, you aren’t old enough to be in a casino, at least not in the gambling area.

Sunshine is OK in its place,,, Outdoors.

It seems a little odd to have a reference to something that happened “last year.” It kinda draws attention to the fact that Calvin never ages.

What kind of character did it build if he’s still mad about it?

You just know Calvin will do whatever it takes to get into either one of those places, despite the age of course.

Sunshine bores the daylights out of me!

Calvin would prefer to build character on a cruise ship. Like going on vacation to a mall!

Calvin, you’ll learn a lot about character when you lose next month’s rent at the casino.

No life vest on Calvin. Dad must be hoping the canoe will capsize.

Calvin mentioned last year, so does this mean Calvin is now seven-years old instead of six?

Oh, Calvin, we’re fairly sure that your mom is having those same thoughts now.

Calvin’s dad should build character in an insane asylum.

They say that frustration builds character. I suppose that explains why I’m such a character.

Because Calvin, dad can’t afford to build character in a Miami condo or a casino.

Dad, you’ve got it all wrong. Adversity doesn’t BUILD character, it REVEALS character. When Calvin shows you who he really is in times of adversity, believe him.

If Calvin was a dwarf, surly his name would be Grumpy!

Everyone knows building fires is what builds character.

Spare some feeling for the bugs. They don’t get vacations. Have to work for all the warm months. Then sit during the winter waiting for the warm months to come again.

Dad, did you forget the lifejackets for Calvin? For me even a cruise ship not right, I gain too much weight, never been to a Casino.

Calvin might like camping at Fort Wilderness Campground at Walt Disney World. And he might encounter Dean, who is currently in the Magic Kingdom.

What is this obsession with choosing to do things that suck for ‘building character’? All doing this to Calvin is going to accomplish is make him less selective about which nursing home Dad ends up in.

I built character in a casino.First time I went in I came out with empty pockets. Then studied odds.Now I always come out ahead, every time.I guess I’m a self-built character.

Many years ago , we drove through Los Vegas and stopped for gas. While waiting, I put a coin in a slot machine , and WON! (a pack of gum)

When did Hobbes sneak into this vacation !?! He surely wasn’t in the car yesterday … hmm

There is no woman in the entire USA that would put up with a first time at this much less a follow up. Their thinking is more like Calvin’s…….and mine! When I got back from Vietnam, I said, “Never again will I sleep on the ground.” But that was life in the Marine Corps in a war zone!
