My front windows reflect the large tulip tree in my front yard, so I get frequent bird strikes. I always go out to check to see if there was a casualty, but so far, no broken windows or broken birds. I wish I knew how to make them less reflective without making them opaque.
Actually had that happen on the sun porch years ago. A bird hit one of the windows. Went out to find where it crashed, expecting the see a dead bird. But never did find it.
I think panel 6 is the first time we’ve seen a poof as it winds down. How very adorable – and Pucky’s face in the same panel is just as cute. “I don’t know how to tell him this….”
Poor Elvis, being woken up out of a sound sleep like that when you’re already one who’s accused of being high strung can’t be easy. Glad he’s okay, too.
And somehow I think it’s a good thing Tommy can’t understand what the bird’s saying to him, as it’s probably not all that friendly towards the cat.
If the stunned bird is resting on its wings and tail feathers, beak open, or just flopping around, it is probably in shock, which can kill. Approach slowly to give it time to fly away if it can, pick it up and stroke the head gently, beak to back. Continue to do this until the beak closes and and it moves a bit. Open your hand. Usually it will “lighten the load”, and then fly off.
I just love Tommy praying for the bird. I think this is the same bird Tommy tried to interview on another occasion Also love “sweet powder puff of nature”! Really Georgia, how do you keep coming up with such great lines?
Happy Sunday everyone! Hope everyone & their fur babies are all doing well this morning! Shaunnmunn, continuing to send love and healing prayers for Dusty and you & your husband.
One year we had a cardinal see his reflection in a bedroom window. It was nesting season and he apparently thought his reflection was a rival male. He tried to fight off the “intruder” by flying at him and hitting the window with his chest…..over and over again….every morning for several weeks….flutter, thump, slide down window, fly back to porch railing, repeat. I got to the point of contemplating birdicide myself. We named him Birdbrain. Luckily he only lasted two seasons and as far as we know was a bird recipient of a Darwin Award since he never mated.
I thought that we were seeing actual blood at first, but I guess it’s a robin.
I don’t know how many bird aviation accidents we get, but I’ve actually seen a small one colliding with the big living room window. It lay there motionless for what seemed like a long time, five minutes? Ten? Then it got up and began shaking itself. A few more minutes and it flew away. Hard to believe it was really completely okay, but I’d like to think it was more careful after that.
Good morning and happy Sunday/Bunday, orbsters and orbabies! Things are nice and peaceful here this morning. Yum Yum chased a rabbit around the parking lot, and it got well away from her.
Elvis gave a truly majestic and impressive poof today; and the bird curses are truly imaginative: who’s the %*^%%& idiot who put that window there? Was it you, you…you…you…(insert heavy breathing)…aaarrrrgh!! I just don’t have the words!!!!
LOL I see that Elvis continues to be “ungroomed” due to his rudeness to Lupin and Puck, blaming them for the horrid hairball. Lesson: Don’t bite the paws that groom you. ;-)
Dusty drinking! Crazy about Temptations. Nix on shrimp!!!!! Ate some kibble.
Daddy tool out on a lead for about 20 minutes, allowing him to roam, but not get under the deck. Came in, had some more water & now curled up at the sliding door, happier looking than for the last three days.
Loving thanks to all of you! Will get back on later to read all your stories about birds, windows & kitties.
I worked in a sort of high-rise (20 stories, we were six stories up) with shiny windows and my cubicle was at a window. One morning I was kind of looking out for a moment to rest my eyes and ‘thump’ a pigeon smacks into the window and goes down. With a red-tail hawk followed it into the bushes below and took it away. Alas.
I’ve been trying to upload a picture for my profile. But all it ever says is “uploading” and it actually never does. I have ensured that the file is smaller than the 2Mb maximum. Is there a trick to this?
Reboot, he of my avatar picture, has run away. He has been trying to get out every time the front door opens but we have always managed to catch him again. A couple of days ago he went feral and attacked Jora when she picked him up to bring him back in. Left bruises on her arm and a scratch on her hand. This morning I checked that he was nowhere near when I opened the door to go to church and he leaped past me from nowhere and ran off. I don’t know where he is. It’s almost supper time and I’m hoping that he shows up then.
I was driving through a parking lot when a seagull flew full-tilt into my side window with a loud wump and left a shmoo of slime on the glass. It startled me so badly that I nearly lost control. I looked back and saw it lying on the pavement with another gull next to it. I looked back again and they were both gone. Crazy experience!

Is Tommy thinking of adding “bird” to his language skill set? So far it’s chipmunk and wooly mustache? Is that all?

Elvis – somehow I don’t think that’s what Lupin is asking in panel five. But it’s still good to know that you’re okay too.

I just realized that Poofy Elvis looks like a big, fuzzy sunflower. And then I love how the poof just casually deflates.

LOVE the last three panels! Both Tommy and the bird are so cool! And I find #8 especially unique – don’t think I have seen Tommy drawn that way yet!

There is a song from 1976 that has only these words:
Fly, Robin, Fly
Fly, Robin, Fly
Fly, Robin, Fly,
Up, Up to the Sky!
Here is my added verse:
Poof, Elvis, Poof
Poof, Elvis, Poof,
Poof, Elvis, Poof,
Show them you’ve had enough!
I would love for my fellow orbsters to add their verses. How about it?

BWAHAHA! Subtitles cracked me up. But this is sad too, because so many birds do not “wake up” after such an accident. :(
