If you’ve ever experienced – up close and personal, as they say – a full “Kiltie” band of bagpipers and drummers, you will understand why they were the first sent into battle, ahead of the troops to demoralize the enemy.
I like bagpipes but I don’t really like the Scottish accent. And I’m sure people are going to disagree with me but the Scottish and Irish accent sound alike.
I think the Liverpool accent is the best. Geordie coming second…
In one of my “Shoe” books, there’s a strip where Cosmo Fishhawk plays “The Bluebells of Scotland”on his bagpipes, inadvertently attracting the attention of a lovesick moose.

As much as I’m ancestrally part Scottish and at times like the pipes, there ARE other times when enough’s enough.

Personally, I love bagpipes, but I suppose that the pipes and insomnia don’t go too well together.

The pipes do kind of drone on. One has to chanter away to get anywhere. All the while keeping the bag of life inflated.

I hope he was playing “Amazing Grace”. I love that one on the bagpipes.

Why do bagpipe players walk while they play? To get away from the noise.

I like them.. I’m also quite moved by reference to them in the wonderful old song, “Danny Boy.”

My favourite is “Minstrel Boy.” Yes, Irish, not Scottish but who cares?

I was in a campground where the hosts didn’t understand why I requested that their friend lay off the bagpipes at 11 pm.

It may be disgraceful, Andy, but how many doors have you knocked on at 3 a.m.?
