SO two things about the movie version of that sketch have bothered me for years:

At one point Costello says “I don’t know” and there’s no “third base response.” Later, Costello says “so I pick up the ball and throw it to who”. Abbott replies “that’s the first thing you’ve said right.” Well, only from Bud’s point of view. Lou should have said “… throw it to whom?”

Aaaah, real history.
