Don’t be such a wise guy, Chesmey!

EGAD!! I just got the first estimate on my roof replacement. It’s twice as much as I was expecting. Nearly 3 TIMES what it cost 20 years ago (but that roofer used cheap quality materials and that’s why the roof looks as bad as it is now). There is no way I can afford to pay that much. It would require a bank loan which would take me 10 years (or at least 7 or 8 years) to pay back. I have not gotten estimates from the other 2 roofers who have looked at my house yet, but after seeing this estimate I’m very afraid what the other two estimates will look like. If they are anything like this one, I’m going to have to scale the project WAY BACK to what I had planned to do in the first place – just do the flat part of the roof that leaks and forget the rest. Never mind that the rest of the roof will no longer be covered by my insurance. I can’t do $22,000. No way.
