One of my childhood homes had a bright yellow wall for a “statement” – it was laughable in time, and had to be painted gray in order to sell the house.
I have a dark red kitchen – I call it Tuscan Red. Love my kitchen. Accented with white countertops and brown cabinets and stainless steel appliances. My mom had a rooster themed kitchen with wheat wallpaper and rooster borders. All to match her antique rooster ceramic cookie jar. I still have it on the top of one of the cabinets. And in my first home, I wallpapered my kitchen in pink and white stripes and border – I don’t remember what it was. I cringe whenever I see it in my boys’s childhood pictures. How did I ever thought it was so awesome. Learning curve I guess. My current kitchen is the best ever.
When my late parents managed to save enough to move us into our first single family home, the people who had originally lived there proved to have creative decorating ideas. The kitchen had pink, white and black print wallpaper, yellow counters, a green and white linoleum floor and blue kitchen chairs. (Not to mention the rest of the house, with bedrooms that had vivid pink, dark red and black paint.) My folks couldn’t afford to redo much, but did replace the kitchen wallpaper with something that harmonized with the counters. Tastes differ…
My husband & I managed an apartment building for our landlord once upon a time. We were always suspicious of the first-floor tenants, as they had a blanket hung right at the door. When they moved out we found that they had painted the living room Pepto Bismal pink (no exaggeration) and were growing pot in the built-in shelving unit.
That sure was a convenient segue there at the end. What a coincidence that Lizzie’s dollhouse just happened to be right there in the middle of the kitchen floor.

a house’s kitchen painted red, yellow, and white will make me think of ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise

I love the color red, but red is not a color that goes on the wall!

I think a white kitchen with red and/or yellow accents would be pretty. Neither the red nor the yellow would be overwhelming.

Tastes change over generations, the colors we used are now “old fashioned” and not like the bold colors now in fashion
