I wonder if John always let El take out the garbage when they were first married and before they had Michael.

John sees his children physically brawling and ignores them to take out the trash. That is not a high parenting moment for John.

Hey, John. Your son is much bigger than your daughter and he should not be getting in a physical battle with her or he will hurt her again. Remember the trip to the hospital the last time this happened?

Liz seems a little small in stature to be carrying out both large bags of trash. Perhaps she and Mike could share the load?

There was NO discussion in either household in which I lived(as a child and as an adult)—I did it upon pain of death from either my Mother or my wife ! ! ! !

When the trash bags are that big it should be Michael’s job, no question!

Every Friday morning my younger daughter & I gather all of the trash into one large bad & I put it out on the porch; when my husband comes home from work in the morning he puts it out into the curbside barrel. Less than an hour later it gets picked up.

When we first moved to Henderson, NV, we had twice a week trash pick-up, something I had never seen before. Because the two of us didn’t generate all that much trash (and I was usually the one to take it out) we usually only put the barrel out for pick-up once a week. About a year after we arrived, Henderson went to once a week pick-ups. It didn’t bother us all that much, but you should have heard the howls from folks who had grown up in the area. Because it gets so hot there, garbage “ripens” fairly quickly and people didn’t want that in their personal space for a “whole week!”. Some areas with HOA’s required the barrels to be kept inside the garage so they couldn’t be seen from the street. Those folks howled the loudest. They got used to it eventually.

We lived in the country and had a gully behind our house we would throw our trash into it and every three months my daddy and older brother would set it on fire and cover the ashes with dirt. There was no garbage pickup for the very rural area back then. So country folk had to come up with other alternatives.

This appears to be the “worse” rather than the “better”….I think!

Okay, kids! Since, one of you can’t take out the trash. You’re both grounded. Say good-bye to all your electronic devices for a month!

I take care of the trash. No nagging anybody that way, and it gets done. I don’t whine about it, either. I consider it just another one of those jobs I want done my way, to keep my house tidy. I do notice garbage smell and over filled wastebaskets when visiting. I don’t judge….. ; )

The fight seems to be about “whose turn is it?” It reminded me about that time with our kids, so I made a new rule, that “it is still your turn, until you do the chore…so three days later, it is still your turn, if you didn’t do it”. With three kids, no matter what the chore, it would add up. It didn’t take more than a week for them to see the result, and they did their turn on the same day from then on. About the garbage, the issue here, the only thing that we required of them was to clean out the garbage from their rooms, and twice a week the garbage from their shared bathroom, and take it to the bin. They kept a chart by the mirror and checked it to make sure the turns were “fair”…

These kids sure are violent. They are getting to be the same kind of ill-mannered pieces of trash in FoxTrot. However, FoxTrot is an American strip, so that is the kind of reputation they’ve earned. What is the Pattersons’ excuse?

There are two bags, and two kids, seems like basic math to me.

Do both Liz and Michael have a turn at washing the dishes? If so then they could each take a bag. If only Liz has to do dishes it’s only fair that Michael take out the garbage.

Will the circle of violence continue with Elizabeth hitting April?

There sure seems to be a lot of hate in these latest comments. If the haters must read the comic, they’d be doing everyone a favor if the kept their damned mouths shut!

    Bottom line….

There should be NO trash pick-up on Monday Morning…Sunday is not the day to do this…
