Because Lucas Lamoreaux is a butt monkey. His only purpose in this strip is to fail miserably at whatever he does, whine about it, and get crapped on by whoever’s there at the moment. Of course, this gets lots of laughs that the main character cannot get herself. Do not try to lift the butt monkey’s spirits; it just means more failure and humiliation later on.
Oh, and butt monkeys never get the girl, even if she is the standard tsundere.
Karma does not apply to webcomics.
As for Mona trying to get her goth cred back, that ship has sailed.

Mona was never a goth. That was explained in the Mona meets real goths storyline from a few years back.

Strictly speaking, isn’t Karma only operant over multiple lifetimes anyway? Maybe in her next incarnation Tiffany will be a factory-farm chicken.
