I don’t understand the interest in autonomous cars. Nobody seems to actually want one, the costs associated with certification are sure to be crazy (that is why a new Cessna 172, the equivalent of a Honda Civic, lists for nearly $400,000) and they are never going to be as good as a good driver.
Horses could remember delivery routes. I’ve also read that when mules were used to string telegraph/telephone wires, (especially in rough terrain) they remembered how many poles to go before switching to the other side to transpose the lines.
