Intelligence tests for animals are based on their speed at understanding what they are being asked to do by a human and doing it. Cats flunk every time because they understood you fine, they just don’t care.
Dogs definitely have tougher digestive tracts than humans do…their wild cousins are scavengers as well as hunters. That said, they also don’t seem to have enough brainpower to avoid eating things that make them sick. My lab mix has eaten snow with pine needles and sticks in it and had to go to the emergency room several times now. You would think she would notice the texture before swallowing.

We had a dog who ate something or other and nearly died. She was never the same after that. I still think she got into poison.

Nos Nevets…. and others….
That’s a border collie, on the leash…
not a Lassie-type (“rough”) collie.Border collies and poodles are thought to be among the very most intelligent dogs….
whereas some hounds are…. um… not.
Yeah, yeah, we all know or have a super smart basset or some other sort of hound…
but I think she’s using the stereotype to make a joke,
ie, if a dog has to be smart enough feign something, like good health,
some breeds might be better at it than others.
BTW… I think those who said she was dog-walking for a summer job must be right.
Her dog, not “their” … is Marlo, the rescued greyhound.

If that Storyline goes on for some weeks Jeff Mallet might come close to the mutt-portrait-ability of Adrian Raeside
