Sawtooth continues on without his dearly (?) departed partner. It’s not quite the relaxing experience he prefers. According to Google Maps, it’s about 15 hours by car from Ernie’s in Columbia, MO, to Minot, ND. It probably takes about the same amount of time riding in a boxcar.
That canister labeled Poison is there for a story reason I think. Surprised that a rail car with contents like that, has the door still open. Obviously Sawtooth opened it to get inside, but a rail employee might spot it & slam it shut & locked. It seemed strange to me that Grimm was supposed to be carrying all of Sawtooths money with him to the “job” at the Tracy house.
Can anyone decipher the meaning of the symbol inside the circle just to the right of the word “oison”? Could it represent a schematic for a chemical formula?
We don’t really know what exactly became of Grimm, but it seems clear enough that it wasn’t pleasant. Since Sawtooth has hopped a freight, though, we may conclude that Grimm met his fate on or near the tracks, where the northbound train that Sawtooth is riding would have passed. Sawtooth is presumably aware enough of train routes and destinations (as a regular train rider, remember) to know that eventually this ride will get him to Minot and his secret stash.
I think, however, that the “poison” drum is not a plot-point so much as just colorful background to help set the mood….

We will see Grimm one last time even if he is under a white sheet.

Does the poison portend a train wreck where ’toothy becomes awash in that stuff and becomes an ex person ?
Would be neat if it were a powerful acid, it is broken out and all that is left of tablesaw is a heavy vapor cloud and his stainless steel choppers.

Meanwhile , Dick Tracy still lies on the ground unconscious, because of his gross ineptitude

Where’s Timmy? You’d think he’d be all over this by now! An obvious Sweatbox ending coming right up!

24 days until the Minit Mystery starts. I figure there’s going to be a few strips dedicated to ongoing subplots before then.

Can we assume Grim(M) met a grim ending? Maybe he’s just taking a Midnight Train to Georgia?

Besides the tanks of poison, what do you suppose is in the drums, toxic waste?

I wonder if Sawtooth will run into Lee Marvin & Ernest Borgnine on that train…
