WebMD lists symptoms of stress including low energy, insomnia, and upset stomach. However, there is nothing there about bug-eyed frogs with detached eyebrows eating sandwiches. So you might want to get that checked! ;-)
A creative block is not fun. I have summary reports to submit on a deadline and dread the days when the thoughts do not flow. In regards to todays offering Noel Coward had a similar observation: When asked by a young actor what the young actors motivation was for a particular role and scene was, Coward replied: “Your pay packet on Friday. Now get on with it!”
Been there, more times than I want to think about, Dan. For me, breaking the block meant disconnecting from negative distractions like opening those nasty “over-due” notices, bill collectors, nagging wives and screaming kids etc. flying to a nice tropical island and kicking back for a few months in a Caribbean paradise.
I’m lying !
People used to ask me where I came up with my crazy ideas when I wrote a satiric newspaper column. In truth it wasn’t easy, and it was often the “eleventh hour” before I came up with something.
What usually did the trick for me was to attend a local city council meeting.
That may sound dull, but actually, all the whack jobs in the world turn up at city hall meetings, in one form or another.
I always managed to glean a nugget of comedy out of the mind-numbing business of community governance.
If you don’t want to be political, go to the Mall and watch people shopping and interacting ( WalMart & Home Despot are also good venues to people watch ).

One good thing can come from this: When you beat your head against a wall, it feels good when you stop.
