“More than at any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.” — Woody Allen
I came of age during the Cold War, when everyone thought a nuclear holocaust was inevitable. It was not inevitable, but it is still a possibility. People should keep it in the backs of their minds that all the Twitters and Facebooks, all the iPhones and Ikeas, all the Teslas and Starbucks could be taken from us in roughly 25 minutes, and there’s not a danged thing we could do to stop it. Fear can make people do horrible things, but so can hubris. Sober realism is sadly unpopular with all our political leaders today.

Rats flee a sinking ship and you can fit a lot of rats in a spaceship.

People have been worried about “the coming apocalypse” ever since I can remember. Why is now so different?

How is the pen sticking to Rat’s head? He obviously did not put it behind his massive ear, or we would not be able to see it.
