I’m enjoying this retrospective. Of course, it makes me wonder about the future of Gasonline Alley and where Walt Wallet will fit in. I desperately want for him to stick around, perhaps retire to the old comics home, and return every once in awhile as “character emeritus” for special days, like the Autumn walks, special messages at Christmas and other holidays. God bless you, Uncle Walt!
What I would like to know, will Mutt be bringing in a basket with- you guessed it- Skeezix as a baby in it? “He never did grow…” (Kind of like in the Mad Magazine parody)
The men who distributed Gasoline Alley at time decided that all their strips should have a baby in their cast since Walt was a bachelor at the time Frank King figured he only way he could add a child to the strip was to have Walt find a child left in a basket on his doorstep.
Without that metallic bio-reactive meteorite under the whole town they would be all grown up, old and dead with the new generation into the 21st century. If Oliver Warbucks had his way he would excavate all the meteorite samples for his grand Project Lazarus (Immortality) maybe because of Am’s influence in saving his life once. (And Mr. Asp’s) IMO

Skeekix was also the first real time comic strip character. He was an adult by the 1940’s.

They ought to take that “100th anniversary” graphic and use it on the GA homepage here.

Baby Skeezix was THE turning point of “Gasoline Alley.”

Who knows?! Maybe the retirement home has a garage somewhere on site. If so, I think I would know what cast of characters would gladly help! :)
