Has to be thicker that 1/4". I did exactly this when I was @15. No band saw, spent hours in Dad’s shop cutting and shaping. Hiked to the school yard so I would have plenty of room. First throw, it hit the ground and snapped in twain.

If you love a boomerang, you should let it go, if it comes back then it’s yours to keep forever.

It’s all in the wrist. So obviously, Horace has a problem.

It’s impossible to lose a homing pigeon. If you release a bird that doesn’t return to you, then all you’ve lost is a pigeon. It must be the same way with boomerangs: if you throw one and it doesn’t come back, all you’ve done is toss away a stick.

A friend make me a boomerang long ago and I still have it. They are hand sensitive as in left handed and right handed. I’m left handed so he had to take his time to make it correct for me. He taught me how to throw it at an angle into the wind and to crack my wrist like a whip. I got good at it and still love my homemade boomerang.

Endless loop. Horace himself is a boomerang in this.

My brother made a 3-foot by 3-foot boomerang, using layers of plywood. When, he threw it, it traveled rather slowly, while making a roaring sound. When it was going back towards him, he ducked and avoided it, instead of trying to catch it.

Sensible. Sounds like a war boomerang, intended to catch the enemy from behind – or frighten him.

I have made one boomerang and it was quite successful. Buy a plank of bass wood from the hobby shop, cut it in half, use a belt sander to make wing shapes on the ends, bolt the two bits together to make a four-bladed boomerang. Made a nice tight circle and it was easy to catch.

A friend threw it level to the ground, it shot up into the tallest tree around, and I never got it back.

Christian Morgenstern (I tried to translate it):

    Once there was a boomerang

Was a little bit too long

    Boomerang flew a bit

    But not return it did.

Audience – for hours – then

    Waited for that boomerang.
