As a teenager, I was a lifeguard at Duke Power State Park, now Lake Norman State Park. The swimming area had a pier in deep water with a steel lifeguard chair. In big thunderstorms, lightning would strike the chair often. Fish would float to the surface after a strike, but some were just stunned. Many were well past stunned. But none cooked, as far as I could tell.

Fish need their own Ben Franklin to run tests. Preferably in someone else’s lake.

If you hear thunder, get out of the water.

I’ve been around your lake when the storms blow in! Scary!

AIUI, most of the voltage stays at the surface. All fish have to do is swim deep.

Better safe than sautéed.
