This intersection must be in a basin. Otherwise you’d have water rushing in, and the current would carry Thick and Mordred away. Probably the current would slam them against various obstructions, which wouldn’t matter after they drown.
That must be Mordred’s hand in panel #2, unless Thick’s right hand has migrated to his left arm, and caused that limb to sprout an extra pair of elbows.
Actually the weight of those chains would have sunk them, notwithstanding the bouyancy of Thick’s empty skull.
What happened to the eyes on Mordred’s mask? They seem to be askew. The zipper also seems to be unraveling. In panel #2 Thick looks like he has a palm full of water. Where did he get that from?
Tracy brings Mordread with 40 pounds of chain wrapped
around him up to the surface by using just on arm.
Mordread shows that he has super hearing in the first
panel, Tracy is speaking to Mordread while his head
is still submerged under water.
On December 31st, Mordred will get out of his chains - because at midnight, Mordread will have to shake and rattle the chains to bring in the New Year 2011.
When that happens, it will be to the song ” Unchained Melody” sung by
The Righteous Brothers
If it weren’t for the lazy use of silhouetting in panel #1, it would be an interesting picture. It looks like Thick and Mordred have broken into a free-form dance as they hold hands. But Thick has to spoil the moment with his tough-guy talk in the last panel. C’mon, Thick, lighten up and express your true feelings for Mordred!
I’m just shocked at how much progress we’ve made since yesterday. I figured they’d still be trying to escape from the car at least until the end of February.
Please let Mordred’s minions be lurking in the shadows. Please let them take Thick hostage. I want to see Mordred taunt Thick, because you know what? Thick won’t get it. “Tracy, you’re a fool! You’re a rotten detective! You run from danger!” “Well, duh!”
Technical point: They’re still not out of trouble yet. They’re soaked, and the weather forecast said sleet and hail. Sleet means it’s cold, and the panels indicate wind too. They could freeze to death right there on the land. Tracy just drove their “storm shelter” into the lake, so I reckon they’re in trouble.
Tomorrow, Tracy and Mordred will drive up to a cop holding a stop sign telling them they can’t get through the intersection because, oh, let’s say a circus wagon overturned and there are apes everywhere. Will he go back to the Sheriff’s office again, or will he plow through the ape-strewn intersection and end up in a cage with Mordred, a tiger, and some guy named Fee Fi? Oh, the suspense is killing me.
I think they’ve bonded. After all, this has been going on several weeks now. Now that they are on land, Thick is fascinated (and excited) with all the chains and zippers and wonders if Mordred has a zipper in back.
Judging by panel one, the water isn’t from the rainstorm but rather a radioactive leak from the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant (why else would it be glowing?)… Next week, the Tracy/Simpsons crossover strip…
Either that or Mordred’s chains are going to rust away and set him free (dang Chinese steel…)
I keep looking at panel one and can’t imagine any intersection that I’ve ever seen that would be able to flood and “consume” a car. Is the embankment where the street ends and the sidewalk begins?
perhaps this is the only comic I read because the commentary is not only funnier than the comic, but better thought out, being more logical, rational, and astute than the comic has been for weeks!
thank you, all. Excellent summation, Newenglandah.
Mythbusters did two shows on escaping from a car sinking in water. According to their findings, Tracy and Mordred are both dead and there’s no need for any further strips.
If we’re lucky, Thick will try to wrap the chains around Mordred again. Then, just as he raises one length of chain high above his head, boom! The metal acts like a lightning rod.
What if Mordred has drowned? Accidentally, of course. Then Thick can spend next week pretending to care, and the week after that Horn Hair and Testicle Chin can tell him it’s ironic because Mordred drowned his victims, and they can follow that with another week of bad jokes.
Failing that, zombies can emerge from Intersection Lake and eat their brains (zombies are suckers for junk food).
I had no idea Tracy possessed SUPER STRENGTH. First he smashes out a shatter resistant window with one mighty blow and today hauls a fat killer with 40 extra pounds of steel chain out of a flash flood with one hand.

Gross! In panel 2, Tracy has a right hand at the end of his left arm!

So Tracy is trying to say that Mordred needs to lose a few pounds? That’s mean…

Now will Thick have the sense to handcuff Mordred before he regains consciousness? Like I have to ask …

Next panel, Mordred speaking:
“Dick, if you ever do something like this again I’m consulting a divorce lawyer!”

It’s unlikely the car would have made it out of that hole even without the rain. I’d write a stern email to the Tom-Tom people when I got home.

I dunno why this one seems appropriate … something to do with the manure Thick produces? Or with him being a horse’s posterior?
