“You must show up before 3:00 pm. No exceptions.” “I understand, no problem.” Shows up at 3:25 and demands to see a manager.

Of course, this would be the one time she actually shows up!

This is where you get revenge by making her wait and wait then fitting her into the schedule when you can.

Charge her for not showing up. This is being done more and more. Only the doctor is privileged to make you wait for hours. You can’t do it back.

the expression on his face in the last panel is just a bit too horrified just because his lunch is interrupted.

perhaps if all his patients found other dentists his expression would be justified.

    Lynn’s Notes:

This happened in our dental clinic. I changed the name to protect the guilty. Divot was a great cartoon name!

My wife is a dentist. She was supposed to have the day off, (and we have a ton of work here at home we had scheduled) but she’s going in now for an emergency patient. At lunch time.

A man eating a green salad for lunch? Very unrealistic! I do hope there are no onions on that salad…or garlic. Mrs. Divot will never come back!

Lunch is looking like a salad.. easy to put back in the fridge and eat later. Or.. do like most dentists.. make her and subsequent patients wait while you have your “free time”.

A little consideration for your retail Pharmacist; who usually never gets a lunch break. Take a bite out of a sandwich and put it down and choke it down before you answer the next phone call or answer a question hurled at you over the counter. Maybe take another bite a half hour later.

My dentist’s policy is simple. If you don’t show up or cancel less than 24 hours before the appointment, she charges you for the visit. She is flexible if the cancellation is due to a true emergency or unforeseen circumstance. I really cut down on her no shows.

Don’t remember where I read this: Lady calls and says she has a terrible toothache. Receptionist says that they can bump a non emergency cleaning and see her at 3pm. “Oh no, can’t do that – that’s when I have my hairdresser appointment!”

Re: Dentists and lunch: In “Don Martin Bounces Back,” the dentist’s wife called to ask why he hadn’t finished his second onion, garlic, and limburger cheese sandwich. He replied – sending wavy lines into his patient’s mouth, “Tell her I like to have some regard for my patients!”

This is one time when a member of the medical profession would be justified in keeping a patient waiting.
