Wow! The flooding we got here in my home town on Monday night was far worse than anything we ever had before. Highway 14 is still closed. I take Highway 14 to work, but it will be some time before I do that again. I’m looking at a couple different detours, but so far sticking with County KP. The highway suffered major damage like it has never had before in any other floods. A few miles from my place, a small bridge was washed out. No telling how long before that gets fixed. Further down the highway, water was running under the highway from a pond that overflowed its banks. Officials were worried about the road collapsing. Not a far-fetched idea, since further down the highway, it did just that. Darn, I wish we could post pictures here! All other roads I might choose to take to work are open now (one side road is still closed though). But I count myself so lucky that I had that night off (still on vacation) because listening to the list of roads that were closed, it looks as if every single road I could have taken to try to get home was closed because of high water.
I had no flooding at my house, but places just half a block away were badly flooded. A few houses got it so bad, they shifted off their foundations and will probably have to be torn down. The village has been banding together – so many people are helping with the cleanup and donating things to help the people who lost everything. I took at least 100 pictures and videos over the past few days, showing the worst of the flooding, then showing as the water levels went down to all the clean up the flooded out residents are still doing. I am amazed at how cheerful the flood residents still seem to be. They smile and wave as you go by. There are huge piles of trash all over the place. They even have dumpsters all over which have all been filled several times. I have not been able to help with clean up efforts myself (residents were not allowed in their homes while I was still on vacation and now vacation is over and I’m back at work), but I dug through my closet for a few clothes to donate. Aside from the garbage, everything seems to be pretty much back to normal now, but this is one flood none of us will ever forget.

And the look of doom on his face
Oh I love to eat them mousies
Them mousies I love to eat
I bite their little heads off
And nibble on their tiny feet
