We’ve seen some unexpected crossovers in this strip, but Pauly Shore?! Has he become hipster cool in an ironic “retro trash” kinda way that I missed out on?
And maybe just a coincidence but this drug-themed story is loaded with nicknames for Walter White’s signature creation: “spinning” (like a vortex), devil dust or devil’s dandruff, crystal, ice, and ice cream. And the truck’s logo looks an awful lot like the “Pinky/Speedy” ghost from Pac-Man. Our tale began with echoes of “Peter and the Wolf” — will it end with a nod to “Breaking Bad?”
I wonder if Team Tracy is punning on a bugaboo known as the Pauli effect—a frequently observed, scientifically unexplained tendency for equipment to fail in the presence of Nobel physicist Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958). If so, Devil may have good cause to worry about the truck. :)
If Pauly does in fact have an “anti-Tracy” nature, that could also play off Pauli’s famous (and scientifically sound) exclusion principle, a fundamental law of quantum mechanics. The details of the exclusion principle are hard to summarize, but its implications include the fact that two physical objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time.
Don’t know who this Pauly is, but I am old enough to remember that the evil Dr. Pauli (sometimes cleverly using the pseudonym I. Luap) was the arch-enemy of Captain Video in the old Dumont Network TV show & comic books….
And, while the “ice cream” truck looks a good deal more spiffy now that it’s been cleaned up and repaired, I still think that the logo is unappealing. I wonder why Devil(ia) seems so stunned to hear that Pauly did it?

Good morning™, Pauly!
It seems that the mysterious anti-Tracy guy actually has a name after all. I wonder who he is.

So we glean a small shaving of the “anti-Tracy” in a name and clean up. But what merchandise interested “Pauly”?

I still think these characters, especially the girl, look like the work of the Hernandez brothers in the Love and Rockets series.

If I were an ice cream man I’d kind of resent the implication being presented here.
