I certainly don’t see this strip like that. Discovering Jamal’s interests and personality along with ideas one may not have thought of (like the perceived rarity of black kids seeing themselves in sci-fi as more than a red shirt and needing authors and directors to make sure they are represented) is refreshing. Boondocks was, imo, all angry, all the time. There’s humor here and that makes, imo, Jamal and his castmates worth getting to know and consider.
