    Okay, just to be clear, the answer to that question is ‘Yes’. Thus, the response to that action is a trip to the tree of shame. Lesson learned: Don’t semi-insult any Poncho like creature at the top of the stairs or near a cliff.

    I know it’s just a comic but in this era dominated by the heresy of animal personhood, it may be a good reminder that no animals feel shame. Dog are programmed to grovel before the alpha dog in order to survive in a pack. Lazy minds anthropomorphize this instinct in their pets.

    Shame is a behavior reserved for social animals. It is a recognition that your behavior was not acceptable to others in the group you are part of. Cats could not care less what the rest of their clowder thinks of them.
